The title pretty much says it all. You know the ones, the lag-inducing cloud environments, the ones found in dead space complexes and mission sites? I think it's about time that some development goes into bringing those up to shape.
I brought this up again, after watching some cinematic footage of Thera. The new WH nebulae are beautiful, and the SOE station skin is pretty cool, but those 10-year old cloud objects really do a good job at masking all of that hard work by the Art team.
New UI is all right, it just needs some improvement. Following that (after Rhea), the visuals in deadspace should get some modernisation. Right? Because a large portion of the player-base runs missions, exploration, and sleeper sites.
I know this is an alias thread, but with all the focus on visuals in recent times, it really needs to be addressed. |

...Probably hundreds of people said this over all the years, and got a "no" from CCP, because it's a design decision that the environment must look the same for everyone, but yet I dare to stubbornly say it again.
Please give us the option to turn off those godawful particles completely.
Thanks. |

I need to disable all effects just to have them gone. Don't know why but my pc manages better 800 people on grid than one of those clouds.

If you're still counting FPS get a real computer. Those of us using 21st Century technology see no problem here.

My Starfleet issued Datapad is 24th Century technology, and still has trouble with these clouds.

Back when I had my 8800GTS 320Mb I thought holy crap these clouds suck maybe some day I will get better FPS in them. Then I got an 8800GT and then a 4850 and then a 4890 and then SLI GTX460's and then a GTX480 and then a GTX670 and then SLI GTX670's AND THEN a R9 290.......but somehow......even with something like 14x the GPU power and 13x the VRAM I still can't get a solid 60FPS in the clouds. So maybe it's my processor? Here we go again! Early Pentium D dual core -> Best Pentium D Dual core -> Mid Range Core 2 Duo-> Best Core 2 Duo -> AMD X4 940 -> AMD 8350 -> 2500K -> [email protected] but still with more than quadruple the processing power per core and double the number of cores I can't fly through a cloud in EvE without my framerate getting dropped like an ugly baby at an orphanage.
But I'm not surprised.....it's just another things for the dev team to blame on dev teams before them. More good management at CCP.

Skyrim on ultra? No problem.
Aged cloud visual? Nope.
If they aren't going to make the clouds optional then they should bring things up to speed, even the worst PC ports manage their graphics better than that one single visual effect. |

If you don't think that the clouds look really bad in contrast to the rest of the game environment, then you're probably running on low, and it's easy to see why you would see no problem in that case. |

Okay, firstly it's under "Effects" in "Display and Graphics" settings. I only bring this up because it appears no one got the memo. What we should really be asking though is why CCP tied it to half of the other effects in the game: disabling those clouds also disables effects like engine and missile trails, shield/armor and other various ship related effects, etc. One thing to note as well is that the option use to require a session change for the effects being turned on or off to take place properly, don't know if it still does. It's either the "GPU Particles" or "Effects" toggles; can't quite remember since after seeing it in a patch note from before (came out with Rubicon or Odyssey maybe?) and hastily trying it out, I then re-enabled it due to the aforementioned downside and have since forgotten about which option it specifically is.
The option to disable these things are there, but it comes with a catch. Until they either remove the damn things or completely overhaul them, they will likely remain a persistent issue, like quite a few things in Eve that should still be an issue (POS and Drone UI anyone?).
Btw, with my rig, I don't loose any fps really, but my card does see a rather sudden and hefty heat spike. |

FFS yes make them optional without removing useful effects. Playing on a Laptop is hard enough at the best of times.
