Hi all,
I am a new player (still on trial, but will probably start paying next week) and I was wonder if EVE has a macro system?
Specifically, since I am training a bunch of low level skills right now that each only take an hour or two to train I was hoping there might be some macro that would allow me to leave the client open and train multiple skills while I am at work.
I realize that in the long run missing a few hours here and there of training won't matter. But in the short term, I would like to be able to come home from work and have trained 3-4 skills to level 1/2 instead of one skill to level 3 ( or partway to level 4).
Thanks.

At this time, there is no macro like that, and in general, macroing (mining and ratting) is illegal. Skill queue, will how ever be introduced in Kali, wich is said to come in September.

Welcome to Eve,
Eve does not have a built in macro system. I don't expect one to be added due to potential abuse. Using an external macro system is a violation of the EULA.
As for your skill training, there are plans to add a skill queue to allow you to better manage your skill trying, but that feature like many is coming Soon(tm). In the mean while the best you can do is log on and train what you can. Try to get a couple of skills trained high enough that you can level them going while you work/sleep and train the short skills while you are online.
I would suggest using EveMon to help plan your skills.

Thank you. I had seen some posts mentioning macroing but I did not pick up that they were illegal macros.

Most of the time, when people talk about macros in EVE, they're referring to "farmers" who use macros to run a dozen or more miners at a time, automatically stripping asteroid belts all day, every day.
They can be a good source of cheap ore/ice if you're in the market for it. :)
