Surely there must be two alliances that have been at war on such an epic scale, in time and size, that it has become noticeable to all? Which one(s) is it?
And where can I read about these things so I can keep up?

for longest i would enter Ushra'Khan vs CVA/PIE/VV.
for reads about it intergalactic summit as it is an RP war.
EDIT: iirc the first war decc was issued late august 2003 by Oracle against PIE Inc. since then the single corps have been merging and splitting and forming alliances now and again but basicly although people were coming and going and coming back it's still the same old war.

The war between Minnie and Amarrian RPers is probably the longest running.
It's been going non-stop since the Summer of 2003.

Fixed, and I hate to break it to Amarr and Mimmatar RPers, but I think the war vs skills is the longest running war too

BOB v old XETIC was epic but over within a few weeks as BOB broke apart.

the old original CA vs xetic/ and the original Stain alliance where at war with each other since beta afaik, up until CA disbanded after aroudn nov/dec. 2004 when exodus came out.

I'd hazard a guess at Red Alliance Versus Veritas immortalis, from what i can tell that war has been on and off for quite a while now.

Ushra'Khan Vs Amarr Slavers has been going on for ages. I'd say it's probably the longest war. Not the largest in scale though.

Doesnt seem to be much of a consensus, which hints that there isnt a true leader in terms of Epicness.
Pity, it would be very cool if the universe were focused a bit more in that way.

The 2 biggest wars by far were SA vs CA, from 2003 to 2005 roughly, and the GNW, covering most of 2004 and a bit of 2005.
The entire map was in some kind of big war at that time.
Good times.

Eve is such a larger and ever changing place, their never will be a "War to end all wars".

the political landscape is always changing i guess a better outcome would be overall since realise what region or constellation has seen the most active combat in terms of player losses overall (ships killed etc)
What has been the hotest zone for wars etc

The very large Player alliance against the very small but all powerfull DEV alliance over the new que system and covert ops "feature"

Considering the thread title said "in Eve today", I would suggest RA vs the Coalition.
Otherwise I'd have said SA vs CA or the GNW.

The bigges war is the Alts War that has been raging on these forums between people too gutless to take responsibility for their words/actions, and those who aren't cowards and have some dignity.
It's probably the longest too.

The Roleplay war between Amarrians and Minmatar has raged since approx the 10th of June 2003 , i was there flying for 1st Praetrian Guard, and i fired my lasers in the very first engagement of this conflict, It was very onesided. and i got my a.. handed to me by Macumba and Hippey of Oracle corp.
To my knowledge there has been no periods of ceasefire longer than a few days(mostly due to troubles with CONCORDE sanctioned wars)

Mmmmmmmmm, epic.
While the Amarr/Minmatar conflict has been going on for ages, it doesn't exactly measure up in my book. The stakes are not high, theres relatively few people it affects, and its not a bitter war of total annihilation. They stop short of doing any serious harm to one another, because making the game unfun for the other side results in having no enemy. Then you have other stuff, like spying on the other side being taboo.. meh.
I say BoB vs EVE. One superpower rolling over alliance after alliance, taking regions and fielding epic fleets of dreadnaughts, motherships and tita..er. All we need is for EVE to band up, not bend over.
