How about that instead of a cash-bounty, a pirate gets a random spawn with AI-mercs, which are as talented as the bounty on his head.
So, there is no real way to collect the bounty put on his head, but if the rats manage to pod him (yes, you heard it right), the bounty is reset.
Just a random thought to solve the "I collect my own bounty"-thing.

Pooor Keta-Min, She'd end up with a spawn of 2 carriers, a dread, and 7 BSs...
And where do you expect the Mercs to spawn from? The gates?

Like I said, it was a random thought, a brainstorm-thing.
Perhaps something that was announced prior to you undocking, like a communication: "There is X amount of mercenaries out for the price on your head".
And they try and attack you at a belt, outside station, at a gate, or such , and will not jump to the next system.
Just a random event so to speak.

say NO to NPC crap?
I dont play multiplayergames to interact with NPCs, never did never will.
Basicly enforced NPC interaction is a reason to quit a game

I'd end up putting bounties on my head to save time actually going out and looking for rats.

Oh, yes... I totally agree with you.
Just because I don't like something in a game means that I have every right to enforce that opinion upon *every, single other person in the game*.
I don't like fish sticks.... so I think removing them from store shelves and making them illegal would be a grand idea.
Fool.

I like the idea, given the current situation with bounties. It would need to be unpredictable.
A working, not easily exploited bounty system enforced and executed by players would be better though. Hopefully the new contract system will address that. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Perhaps missions could be taken upon a player, after he/she receives a bounty. And if that player is in a ship of a certain class (eg. cruiser or higher) they collect a certain percentage of the bounty in question.
Eg. destroy player with 1 mil bounty, flying a Cruiser (and pod it) = 50% payout.
BC = 75%
BS/HAC/AF/INTY (etc) = 100%
Now the pirate can't pod himself so easily to claim his bounty.

some people actually have better things to do than interacting with npcs when they log on. imagine that.

those and some other ideas concerning bounties are neat and all but mostly useless. they are centered about preventing people from collecting them using their alts but don't solve the problem of bounties being useless in the first place. a bounty would have to be in the billion range to warrant the time and effort of hunting down a specific target which might require multiple people anyway. just not worth it.
