Correction: LOCAL allows you to do this. Or rather everyone's "use" of local does. The pendulum swings both ways.

The fact remains that covops really afford all sorts of advantages with no discernable counter.

Agreed, but CCP making the cov-ops completely un-useable was not the correct answer for this.
One poster mentioned a mod to counter the cov-ops...someting that takes alot of CPU/PG to fit and consumes 80% of the ships cap on use...and acts sort of like a ping from a submarine...give it a 20km radius, and make it temporarily make the cov-ops visible...giving the gate campers at least a chance of locating the cov-ops.

I am sure the current cov ops fiasco is just a unintended bug fix gone awry. However, this diversion does not change the fact that the dragon code does not perform what it is touted to do, which is solve the lag and max capacity problem. Instead it seems to create more problems that offshoot from the original problem its trying to solve.

Edited by: Brisi on 30/08/2006 14:08:59 From here:
Originally by: Tuxford About the cloaking issue. There has been a little in house misunderstanding. The problem is that the way cloaking works now is that if you are being targetted but aren't locked you can cloak but the lock attempt isn't broken so when you're locked you get uncloaked but there is a bug where the uncloaking visual effect isn't performed so you happily think you're still cloaked.
The fix in the patch notes and the one Kieron mentioned fixes the issue of not seeing you uncloak. However cloaks didn't use to work this way, if nobody had you locked when you cloaked, all locking attempts were broken and you stayed happily cloaked. That is the way it supposed to work and we'll be restoring it back the way it was.
I don't really know when that will happen though. It was really news to me that this "wasn't a bug" until this morning so I've been talking to other devs and bughunters about this.
Covert ops are broken, and will be fixed. Period.

I remember looking thru quickfit and seeing a Decloak Module thats not in game yet, but in the data files (or something).
Had like a 15k radius (smartbombish) and would decloak ships.
Might be interesting when (If (TM)) it gets in.

Originally by: Butter Dog But as covert ops are used for scouting, its rather insane to not allow them to warp away from a gate if there is an interceptor pilot there who is even half-decent. Which is the case at present.
Actually most ppl use them for probing stuff up and setting up fleet combat/ganks. As it is now, you have to be pretty thick to lose a covops.
Granted, but you still need to move then about to the target system. And they ARE generally used as scouts.
The 'certain death' interceptor + 20k scram scenario still applies with the way things work at the moment.
Dude, as it is now, you lose a covops only if you really mess up. It shouldn't be that easy.
Er, have you used a covert since Dragon?
If you jump into a system with a dictor camp, you are 100% assured of death if anything smaller than a Carrier starts locking you. Also if an Interceptor with a 20km scram sits on the gate, you are equally 100% assured of death (if they are awake). No ifs, no buts... you are dead.
I don't see your point. They make every ship almost die. So life is a bit harder now in a covert, so what?
Yes, I fly em. -=====-

Yes, you would. You're part of the elite band of GriefPK's whos attempts to get changes to turn the light off on Eve are finally bearing fruit. Well played!
