Greetings!
The upcoming "minor" patch is going to restrict BM copying to 5 BM's at a time-maximum. If you think Bloodlines made regional BM's overly expensive-"You ain't seen nuthin yet". If people can actually afford it, I'll still be here-but the sad truth is that most new guys will be sitting on the sidelines wishing they could afford them and having no chance at all vs veteran players who already have their sets. Veteran players who can afford them will likely be loath to move from their present areas of operations as well. BM dealers will have their capacity reduced so significantly that prices will be insane. For the next 2 days I will be hustling to make sets for my "main" accounts and then I intend to spend the next month or so doing something extremely exciting while waiting to see if CCP keeps the patch.....mining ice in fed space.

At 10 - 20 million a region, having full sets of instas for every region you operate in was a no-brainer. Now you may have to think before you buy if it's really needed.
Im hoping this helps in a small way to reduce the lag that has become rampant in this game. |

Well, they have to do something about bookmarks, so while it will be painful, its good for the game in the end.

Why can't they simply remove all current bookmarks, and make that the grid where gate is, is area where no BM's cant be created.
Have us jump to x km option that make that x depend on skill.

He suggested Warp to 0km which I think is a good solution. The drawback is that it makes empire wars more difficult.

You do realise that people can still go out and make them themselves, right? People don't have to pay through the nose to get the BM's they need. The patch restriction is going to have 3 effects:
1) BM dealers can no longer make significant isk by leaving their clients afk copying - they want the isk, they have to put in the work.
2) BM copying is no longer going to be a tool for intentionally or unintentionally generating lag. That they have put such a tight restriction on the batch size, and specifically mentioned this reason for it on the forums suggests to me that this was becoming a serious load issue that needed to be addressed.
3) People will be encouraged to make their own BM's for the specific routes they actually use, rather than buying up thousands of bookmarks for entire regions, the majority of which they will never use, which should help curb the ridiculous growth in the number of BMs in the game.

Not half as much of an impact as the complete solution to BM's is going to have If I was you, I'd enjoy whatever you can get now, the bookmark market is going to be nerfed into oblivion, it's only a matter of time. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

Bm's should have been fixed years ago, im sorry but the designers had to be either stupid or under too much pressure not to find a replacement/fix for gate bookmarks.
90% of bookmarks are to Jump gates... get rid of those and you fix a huge part of the lag/database problems. On top of that keep the copying to 5 bm's only and there ya go.
Then maeke the jumps directly to the gate and you fix the players leaving the game problem because of it taking tooo long to do anythign! problem solved.
Pirates wanting to gate came, use interdictors or warp jammers stopping ships 15k + to the game last problem solved. Its freakn common sense on how to fix almost all of the bm problems.
Its common senese from a designers standpoint, a direct jump to the gate would be fine, there's interdictors and warp jammers now that they can do it without screwing up gameplay but only making it better.
Bm's should remain for stuff like marking places in deep space.
Bookmarks was flawed from the beginning and the fact that they are only finally figuring it out is sad.
If a CCP member is reading this and wants more idea's... feel free to ask me.

it seems to me that the 5BM limit was put in place as an emergency measure, as it happened so soon after the database crashing yet again. It doesn't look to me like a permanent fix at all, I think the devs are working on a more permanent (and satisfying) solution. ____________ FEED me!
