I love the look of this ship but I have problems with setup. Ship is shield tanker because of bonus so I am refusing to put armor tank on it. First setup was using autocannons and heavy missiles (or nos) but it leads to very small tank (MWD/web/scram means 3 slots taken).
Are arties a better idea for this ship?

Edited by: Snodgey2004 on 30/08/2006 09:53:11 Because I am forever lazy I can't be that bothered with the whats' and what not's so instead I'll give you the link to the Cyclone setups thread ( 2 of )
Cyclone Goodness
and more....
First link is mainly pVp setups , the second is a mix
Setup I used in the past and worked very well
High :
5 x 220mm Vulcan II's 3 x Medium NOS ( Best you can get )
Mids :
1 x MWD 1 x Webber 1 x Scrambler/Disruptor 1 x Large Shield Booster II 1 x Photon Scattering Field II ( EM Hardener )
Lows :
3 x Gyrostabilizer II 2 x Power Diagnostic System II
Great thing with the cyclone is that it has alot of slots to play about with so there isn't a 'standard' setup , find one you like.

Hello Archen o/
I'm not a Cyclone pilot and thus don't have a lot to contribute other than the fact that when properly fitted, I've seen them become Vagabond-killing machines.

Nothing can kill Vaga if he stays out of web range :-( And my corpmate killed Vaga in Ferox. Currently I am trying arty/assault in high, booster/ampli/em hard/scrambler/cap injector in med and PDUs/damage mods in low. First attempt was unsuccesful, I engaged two Feroxes in belt and they just ran. Well, we will see how it works if I will manage to find some targets.

a) I say stay out of web range b) 5 heavy webber drones = 85% web. Sorry but it's not enough to catch Vagabond c) if we rule out BS (I don't like to fly them) we have Eos and Ishtar which can field 5 heavy drones. Eos can't catch Vaga even with web drones and Ishtar has small chance to kill it if she use web drones in place of attack drones d) there is no med nor small web drones d) don't forget you need 3 points of scrambling to catch cookie cutter Vaga (at least 3, recently we killed Cerberus with at least 4 stabs so maybe Vagas can use more than 2 stabs too)
But it's offtopic of course.

Head on down to this site and look for the [pvp] cyclone thread. There are also some more as well with diff. names. Most of these guys are minmatar guru's who fly minni ships inside out, and i think this is THE one stop best place for minmatar setups, even better than the eve forums.

Thank you. Unfortunately most of those setups are for autocannons and NOS. It means no decent shield tank. In my opinion Cyclone suffers from "shield tanker" syndrome - too few med slots to use close range guns.
Many long range setups still rely on NOS which is not too smart in my opinion. You have to be at 10km to use med nos. Without MWD it's not possible so basicly it's wasted slot. Add to this problems with cap when heavy nossed (it's active tank) and cap injector is a must.
Good thing about Cyclone is at least some of his armament can do damage when jammed. Granted FOF missiles are not the best but still better than nothing.
Given above I think the only viable setup for Cyclone is: - artillery - heavy or assault launchers - active shield tank - cap injector - scrambler (may be switched for hardener in gang operations) - damage mods and PDUs

Well, yeah, since it's a shield tanker. You can make an armor tanked EWAR Cyclone if you're willing to give up the boost bonus, but for general pirating my suggestion would be active shield tank in mids, gank in lows, don't fly solo, and let your wingmate tackle.
The Cyclone's DPS is only trivially better than a Rupture's; if you're not going to take advantage of the Cyclone's superior tanking you may as well fly the smaller ship.

Only a Caldari pilot could suggest this set up . How are you going to scram/web with an arty set up? What about the crap dps? Why do ACs and NOS mean 'no shield tank'?
No ship can be all things in all situations and it's right to point out that the Rup is faster and cheaper. But a well fitted Cyclone is just that bit more flexible as a solo PvP ship. I'd cheerfully have a go at most HACs in one.

i once used it as a full support setup, forgetting dps completely and just fitting whatever i could, after filling the main role with 5 NOS and a hvy tank, 3 on cruiser and 1 each on frigs or all 5 on a BS, cap dont last long :D lets ya mates eat them and is a big surprise. BTW lets ya use that large booster a "REALLLLYYY" long time.
