Edited by: Foxtrot986 on 30/08/2006 20:15:18 If I remember correctly, this is the one with the two Delta II support frigates, right?
If so, then yeah, I have a hard time with this one as well. The key is to somehow separate those two support frigates from the other tristans and atrons, because altogether they will eat you alive. Once those two support frigates are down, try to take the rest out at range(20-30km+).
I originally tried to warp in at 60km and range the support frigs, but they must use microwarpdrives, because they get on top of you in a hurry and web you.
If this is the wrong mission, sorry
edit: I notice you are using 125mm rails. Train up for medium 200-250mm rails. That would probably help.

The only thing I know that takes out those frigates are Smartbombs or Rockets....

Yeah the Tristians shoot heavy thunderbolt missiles that do 150 EM damage to your shield. At least in the lv 3 variation they do.

I realize you may not want/be able to fit it into your current setup, but if you find they close too fast even as you run away. Fit a webber.
Also, you might consider using Assault Launchers. Heavy Missiles are great and all, but you are up against Frigates in Part 1 I think and you may be able to put out more damage faster with the same type Assaults.

Edited by: Fire Giant on 31/08/2006 17:21:17 Man....this is rediculous. I tried the smartbomb....and even switched to the assult missile launchers and I still get crushed. So far Ive had to repair 3 times for over 100,000 isk worth each repair. Hardly worth doing the mission now as I will still lose isk on the deal. WTF.....its only a level 2 for gods sake.....you think it would only be slightly harder than a lvl 1 I did in a kestral.

Never had any problem with this mission,
I use a Caracal, and have the following fit for this mission:
5x Malkuth Assault Launcher -- 1x AB 1x Large Shield Extender 1x Medium Shield Booster 1x Kinetic deflection Amplifier 1x Magnetic Scattering Amplifier -- 2x BCS
Really piece of cake to eat them with full light missile Good judgement comes from Experience. Experience often comes from bad judgement |

I use an Omen, and the key for me seems to be webber + drones. I slow it, so I can do some damage to it, and the drones chew them up for me. Once the support Frigs are gone, I can clean house then.
I tried this mission in my Maller and it was more of a pain than with the Omen.
This is the most difficult l2 I've come across yet, but it comes up all the time for me, so you should def learn how to beat it. Seems to be a pretty common mission.

I actually used a Ferox for this... No issues at all...

I also did it in my Raven, Simple!
I think i am thinking of the same mission...

TBH, Illegal Activity and Tech Secrets are probably the 2 harder level 2s to run (they also play hell with your standings if you can't do the whole mission line really quick). I can run Illegal Activity with no problems in a cruiser, but still have problems with Tech Secrets 3/3 if I don't use a battlecruiser (amarr) because of the orbit range and speed of the fleet stabbers.
Also, if you're damaged, slap on a repair unit, it's hardly worth using station services when you can do it for free (unless time is of the essence).

I've done this mission many times with 2 different accounts. Both accounts have only 3.5 mil sp (1.8 in learning on both). One account I've done it in a duramaller with webber and the other a jaguar. The key is if you are in anything larger then a frigate is to web them and use frigate guns otherwise you wont hit. With duramaller setup I own them and they barely dent my tank, In jaguar I passive sheild tank and still only gets me to around 40% sheild before all the frigates are dead. I use auto cannons on both jag and maller. Just sit there and let them orbit you at 700m web them and pick them off one by one. Kill the support frigates first of course.

i have no trouble with those frigates when they were webbed with frigate sized pulse energy weapons. So you can grab a web and match that tracking if you want. Really though on a cruiser you can just smart bomb them or rocket them.
One thing that is true in missions is equip your weapons for the missions youll be doing and the things you will be shooting at not your ship class.

Get armor and structure repairers, that way you won't have to spend anything on repairs. Simply go to your station, refit the repairers, undock, and repair.

i found all those missions quite easy. i had a caracal and tanked it up a bit and it was no problem of course it took a while to kill them but once they were gone the rest were easy to kill.

I do this mission in my proph all the time, and definatly the hardest lv 2 mission. My fit is 6x Focused Medium Beam 1 with infrared 1x assault launcher 1 with flameburst
Target Painter 1 Sensor Booster 1/'Langour' Drive Distruptor Cap Recharger 1
Med Armor Repper 1 800mm Crystalline Carbide 2x Heat sink 1 2x Tracking enhancer 1
2x med drones, 1x light
I swap the sensor booster out for the langour, kill the frigs, put the booster back on, and pop everything else from 40km.
