Dear CCP web people, Can you please move the devblog, patchnotes, player news center, and forums to a set of servers that do not go down with the game servers? It is VERY annoying to try to log in during an unannounced DT (when I went to bed last night the extened DT wasn't happening) and then not be able to check the news/forums/blogs to find out why the server are down. You could at least update http://www.eve-online.com/ with news of what is going on. If your marketing types complain make them understand that frustrating players with lack of information is a BAD THING(tm)!
Thank you, --Altaree

If I can't get to the devblog while the game is down it doesn't much matter what the devblogs says, now does it?

Does seem strange that the web site is so closley coupled to the game server. I really hope they don't share that same core DB server, if so it would give new insight into why they say BM's lag the server, it's not them in game it's everyone arguing over them in the forums that's lagging TQ...

Cant deny i would like to use the forums during downtime It is a bit daft that the game just dissapears along with all information about it and all forms of contacting any other player if you dont know them in RL.

Yep, from a purely marketing perspective, if the game is down and your customer can't even visit the game's website, it just means increased likelihood that customer will visit some other game's website. Not good marketing strategy at all. Given enough downtime and enough alternative game browsing ... well, you never know.

We are working on a re-design of the No Service page to include some of the items on the Player News Center, as well as MotD updates during extended maintenance periods and patch deployments.

yeah i think a 'eve online is down due to a (insert reason here)' notification would do nicely on the front page. Banner will be updated shortly |

Edited by: Taaketa Frist on 27/09/2006 23:24:00 You can access these forums during normal DT unless website maintance is also being preformed.
But normal dts = forum access. I do it quite often.
However major patches = no forums. Something to do with characters linked to a database or some such. I was never clear on it. --------------

too bad you couldn't evemail playerbase when you have short notice dt (like yesterday). the pop up (in game) works for unnanounced server reboots... maybe if you made it so that it wasn't modal - you could spam those leading up to an emergency (or regular) patch... __ Weirda Join QOTSA Now Stealth Bomber Tweaks |

I'd really really really would like to have the ingame channels to be also available on ccp's irc server...
Please make it happen so that I can chat with my corp friends on public channels when I'm not playing eve :)

where is the problem ? patch notes and dev blogs should be readable without user account login to the web server, also forums are readable without login.
so while there is a downtime, they can STILL be accessible read-only so no whinage possible while the players can be STILL informed what is going on.
the most simple solutions are the hardest to find...

Hugh, the blogs etc. need to be moved to a different area in the web server. The web team has been spending a lot of time and effort on the CCG site (soon to be launched), but the migration of the blogs, news and patch notes to the public areas of the site are on their list of things to do.

Off-topic slightly, but why so much time being spent on the CCG site when there's only been about 300 threads created in the CCG forums in TWO MONTHS? Less than the SELL ORDERS forum gets in 2 days.

The main reason I see for this is that you have to have an active EVE account to post on the forums. Anyone who ordered a mega pack got one free 20 day game time code. Most of those are over. How many of the people who got the CCG also play EVE? I have no idea, but with the resent lack of activity on the boards for the CCG I'd say most do not.
Back on topic. How hard would it be to get the critical news to a real email account that is listed in the account details?
Fao.
