I was ratting in a belt and came upon a Guristis Destructor in a Kestral. I have 2 heavy missiles and launchers to support them yet they were only doing 36.1 damage with the Havocs and 31.1 damage with the thunderbolts. Both base damages show they should be a lot higher. Im flying a MOA so whats the deal? Am I doing something wrong here?

Heavy Missiles vs Frigates = Suckage.
It has to do with the sig radius. Smaller ships take less damage because they aren't exposed to as much of the explosion.

So what is best to use for general purpose? I mean 36 damage is really pathetic for a heavy missile.

Since they screwed with the missiles, there is no "general purpose"...I tend to go for the smaller missile, which in your case means fitting assault launchers...you won't get the same grunt against cruisers, but at least you'll do (almost) full damage to those pesky little frigates. --- Monty Pythons spoof of the EVE Forums; Palin: "Is this the right room for an argument?" There is none.
Light missiles for frigs, drones Heavy missiles for cruisers Cruises missiles for Battlecruisers and Battleships
T2 precision and guided missile precision skill can help out against smaller targets though.

If you are using a cruiser against anything other than BS, then use assault launchers. The rate of fire vs damage is ok compared with heavies against cruisers, but they will chew frigs up and spit them out. Use medium rails against the cruisers, and use the assaults to destroy frigs quickly.
well, just my tuppence worth

Heavy missiles chew up anything destroyer - battlecruiser. Against battleships, not so much. But they still do good damage. :)

Yarr The Awesome CCP Missile Guide
Have a play around with this using stats from missiles in the game vs various ship hulls... It's very good and you'll learn from it. ------------

A web & a target painter will help your bigger missiles kill smaller vessles. I still don't think it compares to using standard missiles or rockets, but it'll help.
Rockets do like 36 damage to a frigate and the firing rate is insane, you could try those, but the range is pathetic. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Theists should not try to use logic to prove their gods exist; it makes as much sense as spiders playing with matches. |
