I am getting the following error when entering my user name and password
connection failed
the server failed to respond to the clients secure handshake request within a resonable amount of time.
anyone else had this? it makes no odds to this issue if my firewall is on or off.

I havn't been able to log in for 3 days now. I'm not sure its the new patch, because i have played since the patch deployment. I can "see" the normal server, but not the test server. I cannot log to either. i attempt to log onto tranq, and all proceeds fine until it hits "Aquiring Bulk Data". the bar fills, then attempts to aquire bulk data for approx. 8 mins before the connection is lost.

Can try this if you're stuck on the 'Acquiring Bulk Data' thing and reinstalling doesn't do anything:
Install eve to a different directory, so the install is completely fresh.

This is to do with ur firewall or anti-virus/other security progs (possibly windows firewall to). Exefile.exe was modified on the patch, u may need to reset your program permissions in those security progs.

That being said I fiddled around with firewall settings myself too, to no avail. Gah, CCP please fix this!

I am also getting this error, i was playing when it went down earlier today and now everytime i log on it says sonnection failed.
I have not changed any settings since this game was installed months ago and has worked just fine.
And nothing has been changed since it went down today. I am however upset knowing this is not a problem on my end and would love to have this fixed a.s.a.p. so i can enjoy this great game once again.

Edited by: Vladimir Ilych on 02/09/2006 09:42:19 still nothing. I have exluded Eve from scanning by AV package or just disabled the whole AV suite. Put in port forwarding rule in my router just in case and port based exception in windows firewall as well.
all i get in my logs is

I am begining to suspect my ISP. I have been unable to access any MS site or MS updates for a while now. Quite by chance I found if I VPN into my company network I can then run windows update fine. Great I say. Unfortunatly the company network blocks port 26000, so no Eve that way. I am no tech guru, does this sound possible at all?

okay. thought I would look a bit harder at this rather than just speculating.
fired up ethereal and filtered out the stream between me and the server when attempting to logon.
essentailly it is saying I have a whole bunch of [TCP CHECKSUM INCORRECT]
so now what can I do about it is the question?

In the last few days, I've been having this problem. I tried clearing cache, checked firewalls and then attempted to download the EVE client again, but I was getting such a slow download that I gave up.
So after looking in EVE Knowledgebase (which was also extremely slow) I did a tracert on 87.237.38.200 and for some strange reason this disconnected my network connection. My network card seems to completely stop then starts up again. My computer automatically re-establishes the connection and then EVE works fine. The EVE website also now runs at normal speed.
I have no idea why this happens amd it's only when I turn my computer on, that the problem occurs... I'm baffled

Tracing route to 87.237.38.200 over a maximum of 30 hops

I can get there alright, it just wont let me login for some reason. I now find that the TCP CHECKSUM INCORRECT may be a red herring. As my NIC works out the checksums it seems the OS which is of course runs ethereal can end up reporting them as errors. Disabling the NIC checksumming so the OS does it removes the errors in the logs from ethereal but does not resolve the login issue.
Tomorrow I will ghost my system onto a spare disk and reload the entire OS to see if it helps.

SUCCESS!!!
Okay hows this for weird. Got another NIC (simpler) and put in my machine just to test. No joy with that either. Reload OS back to XP 32 bit. Nothing.
Now through all in addition to EVE I have been unable to access some websites, any Microsoft page, HP and Java plus a few others. But the birds laptop which access the net wirelesses through the same router could access these sites so it kinda put me off the sent.
When the second NIC was the same it sent me back to the router. Increased MTU from 1432 (default) to 1492 (max) and it works. WTF! I have never altered this setting! I am blaming my ISP but it still makes no sense to me.
Good job I set a long skill training.

I have this exact same problem. Server status does not come up, it says "Unknown", same when I try to check status of Tranquility. I cannot log in at all on any of my accounts.
In short, this blows. Don't worry, I will be submitting a bug report.

You might have to configure port forwarding (26000) on your router if you have one

Actually, disabling my firewall seemed to solve the issue. (For some reason, my firewall software wouldn't load, even though it was operating in the background, so I had to completely uninstall it to disable it).
