I have a question about Mining Upgrades. Can someone please explain this module/skill to me? I bought a mining upgrade unit at the suggestion of someone on this forum. Since then I have trained Electonics to level IV, and Mining Upgrades to level III, and so far, I can still not use the stupid thing. Nope, not enough CPU. It's getting a little old. On sunday I will have Mining Upgrade skill up to level IV. I wonder if I will be able to fit the unit by then... and all of this, for what? A five-lousy-percent increase in ore! This seems to me, to have been a collosal waste of time. Who's with me? Have I been had? Was it bad advice? What training I could have accomplished in the amount of time I have wasted on this module.
I am flying a Retriever which started out with 125 cpu output. Currently, due to training Electronics, it has 150 cpu. The strip miner I units use 120 cpu together. At level III the mining upgrades unit have a 8.5% cpu penalty. Can some one out there please make this make sense to me? I'm a little bummed....

Here's some maximum mining upgrade fittings for low slots.
On a retriever:
low slots: -1* Mining Upgrade -1* Co Processor
On a covetor:
low slots: -1* Mining Upgrade (you don't need a co-proc if you got electronics 4)
On a Hulk:
low slots: -2* Mining Upgrades
No, it isn't possible to use more than one Mining Upgrade for Retriever and Covetor.

My thanks to those who took the time to respond so far. I was hoping to stimulate a bit o' discussion on the subject though. What say, you re-read my original post and think about what I am actually asking...
By the way, "Fit a copro?" might win the prize for the most cryptic, inarticulate, and non-informative response in forum history. And I thank you for that.

Heh, I currently use 2 mining upgrades on my apoc.. Would like to get more of them on there, but it's simply not possible right now due to the fact that every other low slot is taken by co-processors just to have enough cpu to fuel the lasers + 2 upgrades.
That's right, 5x co-cpu just to fit 2 mining upgrades. I'm not complaining by the way, just the way it is.

Copro = coprocessor.
They give you more CPU. Fit one, and you will be able to fit a mining upgrade.

Ok, I'll try.
5% is not lousy, it's quite alot actually. It all depends how long you are going to mine. You can't say "I spent 2 days for the skill and all it gives is a lousy 5%" because training a skill only needs time, no work involved.
5% more is 5% more which is ok for about 2days of skilltime (actually you only need electronics 4, so it's more like 1 day) Almost every serious miner I know uses mining upgrades (as long as he doesn't need a fitting to tank, wcs and the likes)
There are skills in game that take more than a month to finish, just for 5% bonus.
About the copro thing, I am sure you will talk exactly like this in a few months, once you got the lingo.

Everyone trains electronics V anyway.

I actually found it quite informative, and right on the ball. It's what you have to do.
So quit being a **** and ask "what's a copro" instead of insulting the people trying to help you. ---------- My sig is boring. |

I wish I had found this thread sooner! I just spent almost month training Mining Upgrades V, to discover that I'm still short 3.5 CPU on my Covetor for fitting 2 upgrades. I have Electronics V. And just on a whim, I tried the implant that gives a cpu reduction on turrents. But with no hope.
