Anyone out there manage to get into the beta program? If so, what do you think of it so far?

I got in, and I had it on one of my PCs, but the problem is. It does not currently support many of the apps I am using, and I am not willing to go out and buy a new version of windows, a new version of each program I use just to get windows Vista.

I have quite a few programs that are essential to my work and play, if a single one of them does not work under vista I simply wont switch, I dont care how pretty they make the GUI.

I use the Beta 2.0 version on one of the spare desktops, I have to say everything does seem really quite polished and perhaps, if i'm lucky, the release version will be a good thing.
I am having a little trouble sourcing drivers for certain components though so as you can imagine the computer isn't working at 100%, obviously this will be a non-issue when it finally gets released though.

Vista sucks.
1) Designs are not a new GUI
2) You need a certain hardware to match the software when the full version is ready
3) Software that isnt registered at M$ wont run on it
4) Read here for experiences of a user with Vista Beta more into detail.

The future is looking depressing tbh..
Microsoft lobbies and muscles hardware manufacturers into including DRM hardware to work in conjunction with Vista, and future versions of windows.. with the end result in a few years time being, only Computer Veterans, can have any hope of continuing to fileshare, pirate, or just use their PC in a way not approved by microsoft..

I have a beta copy, and I don't like it.
Still, it's not abysmal. I loathe office 2007 though.

I've got it, used it, most of my apps run on it...its pretty etc...
one thing tho...2mill people in the world find the name of this very funny...
in latvian 'vista' means 'chicken'. so latvians see this as 'Microsoft Chicken'. i kid you not

personally im not interesed in vista just yet, im happy with xp, plus im not going to even think of getting vista until they release the final version (like xp sp2)

I am happy enough to be ignorant of Vista until support for XP is cut off.
Whens that happening anyway? 2 years from now? 3? I forget when SP2 came out.

Vista is part of the reason I bought a mac, and if microsoft keeps trying to mess with the key thing on my computer, i'm going to switch it to linux and get cedega

Considering that MS just cut support for 98 in July, I'd say we're safe using XP for a good many years yet. My dad's work just moved to XP, I think. They may not have even gotten to it yet, so don't expect MS to force companies to switch to their new system quickly; they will not be happy about it.

You and every other sensible person on the planet. Unfortunatley this also means waiting until 2010 to play any DX10 games...

I think it's unlikely that anyone but microsoft will be releasing games that only run on DX10.

I didn't, but my college has a deal with microsoft where I get oodles of free microsoft software, as long as I tell them I'm taking it :). One of my instructors told me he can get us anything from windows 3.1 to windows vista 2.0 beta if we ask :).
