I am playing SWG now (3 year) and it is a game that died along time ago. I DL EVE and logged on and was overwelmed with all the informaiton. Could some kind soul please just tell me what they think the "jist" of the game is? I see that you can create 3 toons. What 3 should I pick and what faction should I join. Please help me leave swg and come to EVE.

He is right though.
As a new player, unless you stay in NPC corp in Empire, you ought to prepare to die in numerous and herendous ways. People will 'play' with your corpse and use it as a table ornament, or will sell it on the forums for protein delicacies.
Now. on a more serios note.
EVE is open-ended. You can do, or be aything you want. Main focus, as a new player, should be specialisation. It doesent really matter what faction/race you pik, since there are no 'Racial Bonuses' to anything, simply skills that allow you to control particular racial ships and armaments.
This weeks favourite is Caldari Achura, especially since they are FAST learners and stuff. You can dig around in the Skills Forum and there is plenty of help available.
Now, you MUST specialise if youw ish to achieve any ballance with older players. Because the way EVE skill system works, you can be as good as any veteran, sometimes better than a veteran if you specialise in a particular Ship/Weapon/ etc.
Welcome to EVE, and have fun.
Others will help you more.
P.S. Just dont go crazy when you die, and you will be allright. Its not that bad when you are a noob, its starting to hurt when you loose a 250 mill ISK + fittings HAC though .

Yes you can have up to 3 toons on one account but, you can only train one toon at a time.

I think (boy, that's a long time ago...) that their public channel is eve-uni, don't quote me on that but it's definately worth trying to get in touch with those guys.

Try to create a character's attributes are fairly balanced across perception, intelligence, willpower, and memory. Since you're new to the game, it would be in your best interst in letting charisma be your lowest attribute.
The race you choose has no impact on the ships you can fly and the accesibility of the NPC factions. This point is further reinforced by the fact that most of the roleplaying in EVE occurs in the player corporations/alliances and not in the NPC factions.
...and yes, we do sell and deliver ammo. 425 Express Delivery is available upon request, please see Hans Gates and Marcus Grisbius regarding this option. |

Edited by: Arcticblue2 on 02/09/2006 00:38:47 What is important is to make your own goals.. don't think you won't catch up skillwise to older players, chances are you probably won't... but it does not mean you won't be able to kick some veterans arse.
So set a goal for what you want to do, I remember I first did set a goal to become a miner, I did that, then I wanted to do some missioning... well no problem I did that, I sat several smaller goals to reach, when I did work to get me a Nightmare Faction battleship wich did cost me loads of isk... I made that goal becaue I did alot of work for it.
At no time I have been thinking that I won't catch up on older players... it does not matter to me.
I do suggest that you for example train up a industrial character and maybe a military character... I do now have 31 million skillpoints and to be honest it starts to cost me a few millions each time I get podded (lucky me it does not happen often ) and there is times I wish I had made a industrial character and one military one.

Hi Powerfreak!
First of all I have to congratulate you by taking the step away from SWG. I played it for 2-3 years myself and left with the NGE, when they messed up my Dark Jedi. I played on FarStar server there, and my name in EVE is the same as I got in SWG.
EVE is so different from SWG. And definitely from the SWG: NGE! It requires brain, dedication, you need friends and PATIENCE!! A dev said in an Interview that if you survive the first 2 weeks of EVE you will never leave the game. Its true. This game is dam addictive, simply because you dont "play" the game, you develope a character. you live the world. And the content you find in this game, is what you and your friends create. CCP creates the world. You creates the content.
My adice is this: Get into a corporation today!!! This cant be said enough times. You need your friends more in this game then in other onlinegames. And definitely more then in games like SWG.
I hope you will enjoy your stay with EVE as much as I do. I simply cant praise this game enough! But please! In the first 2-4 weeks, you might encounter problems, frustrations and difficulties. But its worth it. Just hang on, read as much as possible on the forums, Specially the New Player Forums which will help you immensely. Here you will usually meet patient ppl who are willing to help you.
Good luck with EVE! Its a hell of a bumpy ride, with lots of ups and downs. But at the end of the day, the show is simply spectacular!

Wow.. ok where to start
do the tutorials and don't be afraid to come back with more questions.
Several constants in Eve.
you will die....lots. you will loose uncountable amounts of isk in assets. you will get bored out of your tree mining veld, unless of course your name is Chribba The devs listen, most times. you will loose sleep over Eve you will wake up in the middle of the night to switch training you may or may not loose the companionship of a woman/man/dog whatever your vice may be.
and so on.
