Stop whining and thank CCP for actually buying us a new server computer, flying to london and staying up all night to install it.

Actually, I've not seen much whining over this. Most people seem to be grateful even though it took almost a day of playtime. Though they got two extra days for it.

'2 days is worth nothing'
It doesnt matter, you lost a day but you got new servers.. its fully worth it.

based off 15,000 subscribers (prolly much more)
You would expect it for the $2,331,000 they generate each year ;]

Actually it's 30.000 (according to a interview with some CCP guy)
People aren't whining because they got a server upgrade, but because it took long time. They whine because CCP always screw everything up.
I don't care about that though, I love them anyway ;]

Edited by: Deloup Drakar on 16/10/2003 18:09:18 In my local paper today there is a section called "30 seconds" where people write in to complain about things or just bring things to public attention.
Someone was ranting about a certain thing going on w/ one big country and another smaller one and how the ruler of the big country is responsable for many pointless deaths. The paper rarely leaves comments under these letters, but they wrote one under this one. It went something like this:
"10,000 cars may go down route 11 a day, that is not news. If 2 cars have an accident, that is news. If 100,000 <big country> live a day in <smaller country> that is not news. If one <big country> soldier dies in <smaller country> that is news. Stop being lead around like a sheep by the <big ountry's ruler's opposition propaganda group> and think for yourself"
You won't get 1/100th of the posts about CCP/GM/Polaris doing things right as you will if they make one small slip-up (or a large one in some cases).
They are doing a great job people, most of you are too willing to see what other think and join them to see this. They are not as experianced as SOE is in making a MMPOG as this is thier first attmept to make a game (to my knowledge, please clear this up if I am wrong) and a game that hasn't fallen in line with the style the other 99% of MMPOG are constructed.
They are NOT trying to make you life misrible, they are NOT trying to force people out of the game, they ARE trying to get the majority of the community happy with changes while making themselves happy with those changes themselves.
Yesterday I was out of a day of playing, I lost 5 hours of training times since my skill ended while servers were down, I lost time to play and get money. I GAINED time with my familiy and friends, I GAINED a more stable/faster server, I GAINED 36 hours of costs of subscription ($0.65 roughly). They are trying to fix things, but they are as human as we are so they are bound to make mistakes.
Call me a fanboi all you want, just shows me you just need more time outside of a game and maybe a better life.

Well, I think the downtime has been worth it. The server seems quite stable now, I've been playing all afternoon without a crash. Good work if it continues to be reliable.
Was a little annoying to lose a days training but hey ... I guess we need to remember it is just a game and to keep a sense of perspective.
Love and peace

*stops to whine*
*thanks CCP for buying me a new server*
*asks CCP where to pick up this nice cluster server with fiber hard disks*
*picks the hardware up in london*
*moves it to berlin*
*bashes original os and installs debian linux on it*
*starts top programm and gets moist about all this unused resources*

Edited by: Tabius on 17/10/2003 05:23:27 I've never had a problem with CCP making mistakes and errors... in my book it's 100% about how they handle that error.
If they handle it well, then kudos to them, if they handle it poorly, then I react negatively.
And unfortunately there's been a lot of poorly handled issues. If CCP were more concerned with fixing problems and letting us know about a situation rather than trying gloss over and hide them, I'd have Zero complaints.
Notice how the complaining almost stopped instantly when they started announcing server reboots 15-20 minutes in advance? There was an example of CCP learning to handle a problem wisely by sharing information rather than withholding it.

does this server upgrade will mean less maintanence = less downtime like they once said ages ago that downtime will eventually get to a point where they only need to take the server down for an hour every few days or once a week.
