This is a newish character I am thinking of becoming my main, and letting my older character become alt, money maker.
I am not sure what sort of character this will become, but pvp is pretty much going to be a main part of this char's life. I haven't ruled out piracy as a possible career choice though. 
But anyway.. my question is this, do a lot of you piratey sorts have secret carebear alts that you keep hidden to hide your shame?

Shame? As a pirate, the only real reason to have a good alt is to move ships in empire to give to your pirate. My "main" got demoted to the tag of my "original". For a long time, the only thing my original character did was move ships and mods when my pirate needed them.
If you are a pirate with an outlaw status with no alt to move that replacement BS from jita then things can become tough at times.

Having an isk factory backing the pirate character is not at all out of the ordinary. But being a [wicked awesome] frig pirate it's very easy to keep it profitable without backing from my main.

My alt just 0.0 PvPs.
He can carebear too though well. He has excellent standings for missions.

I have an alt that I prefer people not to know. I wouldnt call it shame, its just some of these anti pirates are crazy 'I WILL DESTROY PIRATES AT ALL COST!11!" and i preferr if these types didnt know all my characters o.0. but if someone finds out, meh.

I have 2 chars of about the same SP level. Tec was my first characater and I pirate(d) with him. My second character is a carebear, but not only is he not secret, he is a CEO of our corp. Both of my chars make some money, but I am a space bum.
I guess i am posting off topic here since the question was directed at those who have hidden alts. But, why is there any shame in being a pirate? I think it even gives you a good reputation in a way. No reason to hide from "antipirates" who would go after a positive security character instead of your main either. Just kick their arses if they do
The only logical way, in my opinion, would be to create a secret pirate character if your corporation does not tolerate piracy. But then you should be asking yourself a question if you are doing what you want to be doing in eve, and maybe correcting the problem.

I have a mining/trader main that I use to make most of my money when PvP is slow.
My alt witch is this character is only about 200k SP away from my main so IĈm sure ill start calling this guy my main if I ever pass my main now up.
My alts learning skills are higher so my learning time is less so with both characters training all the time it well take allot of time for that to happen.

I made all my money from pirating since I first got my first thorax. But an alt is nice when you are -10 like me. I have an alt for transporting my ships from .5 and above to .4 and below and thats it.

I have an alt in a carebear corp, but she doens't make much cash for me. I'm not quite sure what to do with her. I as planning on building lots of stuff with her to sell, but that kinda fizzled.
Maybe I should make her grind missions. Who knows...

Not shame in being a pirate.. I meant more that pirates feel might feel shame for having carebear secret lives.
I know I won't do. I just wonder if people find out who a pirate is supplied by, whether they might go take out their lesser combat abled alt to take petty revenge.
