so i was on SiSi and was very impressed with alot of the new things. however i was disapointed with the new icons and the overall look of the new UI. it lacks the colored icons weve had for so long. and alot of them have been re-done. i personaly feel that it looks to simple and lacks character. i think we need to blend the two. give it something that has the character it does now with the progressive look of the new one on SiSi.
if you agree please say so, and if you dont have accsess to sisi you will see what im talking about either in screenshots or when Rhea comes out. |

Not sure which iteration of icons you're talking about.
SISI has has a couple of versions:
The current versions have a polyhedral market icon, previous was a bar graph. Current icons look nice as pieces of art but aren't quite as good for instant recognition and differentiation.
In general, all are a great improvement over current TQ but the icons need to be more recognisable from eachother.
particularly these:
- market - recent SISI bar graph was better that current polygon (too similar to map, I know - but graph was completely different) - inventory - recent SISI simple cube was better than current 'box without lid' - personal assets - remove 3D effect, keep front square and dial
otherwise, great and vast improvement. Excellent stuff whatever you decide, all are a big improvement and it's about how they work together. |

I feel that the new one lacks character. i like the tq one more but you are right there are some improvements but it still to completly toss the tq one seems bad. |

yeah i agree, the loss of the old ones is terrible. One of the few changes ccp's done that I really don't like. The old icons are easily recognizable first of all, you just have to look for the color, and beyond that, they have a bit of character to them as in, they look like what they represent.

I can't really say simply because i'm used to the TQ ones and that has made me biased, however anytime i log onto SISI i don't much notice the change other then when i'm looking to see what has changed when they update the icons and have yet to have a problem failing to understand what an icon was for or finding anything right away |

New UI is an abomination, I prefer the old TQ one, there was no need to change what was perfectly fine. |

...nice to see people being proactive about checking out changes on SISI - what is it 8 days to patch day... |

I like it. Its visual functions aren't dissimilar from my current setup on TQ. I pin everything and use the Mid Gray color template. The Black color template in the new UI is basically exactly like that. I have advocated for a fresher and more science-fiction looking UI for some time. Finally, it's coming!
I noticed that the first wave of icons in the UI update weren't too recognizable in function compared to the original set. The icons in the current build are a lot better.

Some of you seem to be confused on a purpose of a UI: A user interface needs to be easy to use and clear in what you're trying to find. It does not need "character" nor "color". It should be easy to see, second nature to find everything, and not a process in decoding as you look to figure out where the feature you're after is located.
This new interface is a huge step in the right direction. The old interface's icons left a LOT to be desired in terms of being clear. They looked like they were a carry over from the early days of ISPs where they all had their individual interfaces and people trying to find every "in-your-face" way to show an envelope for email.
The icons in EVE were overly complicated and thus became vague. The market one is a perfect example of this. It's a stack of money and.... something else. I think. I've been playing for a couple years now and I still don't know what it is for sure.
Then you have the issue of multiple icons could mean the same things. Inventory and Assets (a box of items and a safe). Market and Wallet (aforementioned stack of money( and things) and... money). Assets and Wallet even! Each one of these are completely interchangeable and would still make sense. While, certainly, as you play and learn the interface you figure out what leads to what, and you end up finding things easily down the road... but that's not how a correctly designed UI is supposed to work. There should be no need to learn the interface.
The next step is going to be replacing the current module icons to succinct versions in the Ship Status widget. Which, I'm sure, is a huge challenge as the icons depict the differences in items and their properties. My idea would be to follow the same format of the new UI but just color code the various classes of items. Like if you have a hybrid gun firing: it's a green hue, if it's it has EM defenses: those icons are blueish, etc...
Tl;dr: Simplicity in understanding what you're looking at is the key. Everything else comes second. You shouldn't need to learn to read an interface, it should be natural. Old one didn't do that. New one does(or at least gets closer). |

Said it before, I'll say it again. it's gorgeous, absurdly beautiful for what it is (and I say that as I curse Marcel du champh or however the he'll you spell that heathens name).
Less is more in this case.
My only critique of it is it should be default black rather than blue(kitcky and ggaudydont begin to describe that tone)
