The above thread provided some links to some interesting reading and this had me thinking about the players of EvE.
EvE is about player/player interaction. A sandbox game where the players are the characters of the show, unlike theme park MMOs where NPCs are the characters and the players just tag along and watch.
However, if it were not for the fact that I frequent the forums, not for the fact that such a thread was started, and not for the fact that someone linked the following article, I would've been blissfully unaware of such events.
Thus bringing up the problem.

Where this video fails is at 1:36 into it. Yes 10s of thousands of players can hear of it. Its quite unlikely that very many will. Most people log in, play their PvE/PvRock and that's it. With most of these players doing so in high sec in their own little bubble, blissfully unaware of what is going on beyond it.
As it is, players need to go out of their way and search of news, assuming such a thing was even formally covered.
Fan sights are nice and all but what is needed is the delivery. Most news agency know of this and solved the problem a long time ago. They deliver the news to the people.
I'm thinking an EvEmail with a link to a primary (CCP endorsed) "newspaper" that contains all things EvE from all corners of the EvE universe. Once a week or maybe once of month (if a week is too frequent).
This changes it so that the blissfully unaware now know of what is going on outside their little bubble. This is especially good for the new players of EvE where such a thing would present EvE to be a more exciting place. Not more exciting than what it is but more exciting than what the new player would typically perceive it to be without having such information sent to them for them to read about.

CCP's true, butthurt, colors.
Because those who can't do themselves keep others from doing too.

Why not just allow for news sources such as TMC, EN24, etc. to publish news in-game to interested subscribers? This would let people get their fix in-game, and make that information more available for the "blissfully unaware." |

We had this for awhile (before the launcher window). CCP was lax in maintaining it and people ignored it all the same.
Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.
