They're "alliances" (made up of many corps), not "corps" or "guilds" (quite what a guild is I don't know, sounds like some sort of ghastly pre-space travel organisation).
I think the big 4 you refer to is made up of:
BoB - Band of Brothers (Who control a lot of space out to the West of the galaxy) D2 - Dusk and Dawn (To be found in the North and North West) ASCN - Ascendant Frontier (Who have a huge industrial base in the South) -LV- - Lotka Volterra (Found in the South and South East)
BoB are generally considered to be the most feared in combat terms while ASCN are seen to be the most industriall developed, but this is not to say that any of these alliances are weak in either combat or logistics terms.
Of the above I belive only LC and ASCN are on co-operative terms (and LV form "the coalition" with a number of smaller (in power terms) alliances), thus they probably form the largest power block in the game, although with the current seige warfare technology in use across the Eve galaxy even this alliance of alliances is not enough to take the most heavily fortified and defended systems, so this is somewhat meaningless.
Finally you may wish to examine this informative pod-pilot resource showing, in crude terms, the territorial control of the galaxies 0.0 security status regions.
(P.S. This is an IC (in character/role play) forum, perhaps the one you were looking for was Corp and Alliance Discussion (below this one) for OOC alliance and corp discussion). - - - - - - - - - -

Because there is more to achieve in this game than bragging. You can actually change stuff.

Notice the word "considered" in the quoted text. Alliances rule with the fear of their power, not with the power itself. Though the latter is still needed in the long term. ------ No ISK, no fun |

I think you should be more concerned with your own alliance failures than pretending you have half a clue about what is going on in ours.

Allthough it is next to impossible to have a thread in this section of the forums without catching some kinds of nasty sarcasm virus I'll give it a go.
The start of the big four all happened way back earlier. When NPC station ping-ponging was getting boring and POS came to Eve.
With POS came industralisation of 0.0 space. Allthough high-end mining and ratting before was very profitable in 0.0 it is nothing compared when POS came in. The forces that hold their 0.0 space could then utilize the resources on a grander scale to feed their war machines.
The forces that are now called the big four realized this and together with decent or more than decent war machine they were the most successfull of the industralisation of 0.0.
The alliances that stayed 'pure pvp' or with inaddequate industralisation kept and still keep on struggeling and cannot keep up with the rate of production and keep lagging behind more and more every day. The majority of them became dependant to the big four.
Even though the big four control 50% or even less of 0.0 space they control Eve capital wealth by way more than 50% and the percentage keeps on rising all the time because their growing rate is higher. If you can pop up an outpost every few week(s) means that you doing something right. They control Eve and the rest is fighting for scraps basicly.
Also in retrospective the attack G/Iron staged against BoB many months ago in fact could have been a key moment in Eve history. If G/Iron managed to defeat or cripple BoB they would have swung the balance of Eve in their favour.
Similar case would be the destruction of capital ship arrays. BoB destroyed the Trust one and MC attacked BB one. Both being impressive campaigns. All big four have their own capital arrays now and are in a new arms race.
Same goes for the removal of the Goons from 0.0 which was a combined attack of 2 of the big four. If they also would venture into 0.0 industralisation they could have become a fifth member. And there might be another fifth member in the near future but they might suffer the same fate as the Goonies did.
Now the big four are preparing for Kali, watching eachother closely and keep on defending their territory and more important their industrial side. Their industrial capacity is key element of the current arms race and will be decisive in the days, weeks, months to come.
They can afford attacks by smaller forces because they can be back in the same type of ship they lost several minutes ago with an adapted setup. But when they are attacked by larger forces being another big alliance or a combine group is attacking they will have to use up resources they badly need for their arms race. They can make up for that by inviting more sponsored corp into their 0.0 territory to gather more resources.
Wh*ring out 0.0 is the only reason to hold 0.0 space. And I wonder if Eve itself anticipated that 0.0 industralisation went this fast. It sure as h*ll will bring us exciting times with Titans and Motherships causing mayem and destruction but with the lagmonster being the undisputed leader of many killboards.

Edited by: DB Preacher on 05/09/2006 10:04:12 I've been leading fleets to glory since back before you were blowing fat gallante men in jita for scraps of veld.
In fact, I'm undefeated in fleet combat as a FC in large scale engagements for 3 years and undefeated as a pvp'er in the caldari championships. I don't believe you did to well there did you?
The only noteriety you achieved was posting on galnet with under a guise. Impressive.
