I fly a Rupture for most of my ratting/PvP (its easier to replace than my cyclone ) But i tend to find myself pvping thorax's most of the time as they are perhaps the best cruiser in game along w the rupture. Now my Question is, which of the two do u guys think is the best and since i think the rax has an upper hand most of the time due to high blaster dmg, while my guns suffer from **** poor tracking (CCP fix 425mm or else....) and dmg i wanna know what would be the optimal set up to fight a thorax while remaining flexible enough if i were jumped by another race (lets say a guy in a maller or caracal wants have me for breakfast)

just use 220mm's and an mwd and fit a web. this way you will always have higher speed and thus you control range. Orbit the rax at 5k and his guns wil have a really hard time hitting you while ur ac's happily blast away. You should be able to tank the drones, otherwise u jsut send your drones after his.
Usually a rupture should win that 1v1 afaik. ---------------------------------------- I R ZEPHIRZ!!!!111one

If I were to set up a rupture to fight myself (I fly a thorax mostly when I want cheap PvP), I would not try to outdamage the rax (pointless). If you wish to continue to use 425mm autos then you should try to setup for speed to utilize your superior falloff. Nos or two to neutralize the cap hungry guns and MWD would also be a good idea.
Otherwise, dunno. Never really flown a rupture...
Just pondering.

As mentioned, use 220's instead of the 425's, 2 x nos, fit a web and do your best to dictate range....blasters do indeed do a lot of dmg up close....could also try light ecm/tracking disruptor drones, should lessen the dmg somewhat "It's better to stay silent and appear stupid, than to open your mouth and leave no doubt!"

yeah forgot to mention that... the Nos
highs: 4 x 220mm 2 x med nos
meds: Mwd, web, scram (if you pve change scram for a tracking disruptor, those will work vs npcs too afaik.)
lows: med repper, than 4 slots for tank or dmg ---------------------------------------- I R ZEPHIRZ!!!!111one

I think most of the time you'll PVP thoraxs with 1600 plates and light neutrons.
Right-click, look at ship and look to see if they are small guns.
If so, destroy drones primary, if med blasters just kill thorax asap. Waste no time on taking drones down, but ONLY if the guy is using med blasters.

If I knew a blaster-rax was going to go for me, I'd fit two webs and a scram.
No MWD.
More caps, you don't burn to get in range, and you can then control range to the point where you can sit just outside blaster range.

Keep in mind that when using Barrage M ammo you easily hit up to and little beyond 10km, compare that with the Thorax's range and you know the tactic.
Just make sure that you are faster than the Thorax (use an effective webber).

If you fight a rax within web range you give him the advantage. A t2 rax using null will hit out to 10km and still out dps you. If you truly want to have the upper hand then try and keep combat out around 11-13km, use your superior speed and agility to maintain this range. Do this and you have already won.
Another option for killing a thorax is to use a stabber. Fit it out with 425s for max range and use your speed and agility advantage to stay out around 15km. Kill drones first and you have no worries, he can't fight back and he can't run.

With null ammo and Ion II's my rax can still hit you at 10km...so think harder next time. Thinking keeping a rax to 5km and you'll be safe is an error in your understanding of my ship, and it makes me smile.

imho autocannons should hit faar more often then ur ions cuz of superior falloff and... by the time u swich to long range ammo u should get at least 10 volleys from ACs wich can hit quite hardly. that is MY opinion

Definently go for the stay out of range option and use the range & speed advantage.
If that fails... well, you can equip 2 energy neutralizers. No gallente ship likes to be out of cap, and if you setup your rupture to be passive tanked with a plate and 2 EANM II + DC (ok, this use 1 cap... :)), you wont mind being out of cap yourself.
If thorax uses a cap injector, he wont have both a web and a warp disruptor (since he needs a MWD/AB), so then you can get away anyway if you must.
The arrogance of gallente pilots often work in your favor. They think they are invincible. :)

U know i realize matar have higher base speed/agility thatn other races, but it really doesnt work out as good as it should...by logic we shouldnt outtank any race but we should be able to make it up w our speed/agility. It simply doesnt work out that way unless ur in a stabber/vaga....

In time you will have the upper hand in a rupture vs thorax fight, and you'll choose to do it close and personal (approach while loading hail m and rage rockets) or laughing from the edge of web range (fusion m / barrage m)
Hint : The rupture has enough powergrid to fit : medium guns (DONT USE 425mm) - MWD - 1600mm plate ... no fitting mod required Use the remaining slots wisely, train up cruiser skill, T2 guns and go kill some.
