As per the title.
I really have no idea where to begin in EVE now. I have a bunch of assets, plenty of isk to do me for now, but.. everything has changed. I feel like I should be learning how to play this all over again.
Anyone else had similar experiences? What worked for you?
...and what now? I see there's been a whole host of changes made to all sorts of stuff, and I'm sort of at a loss as to where I should wander to next... I hear Null is "fun" - anyone wanna weigh in on that? Seems like being a grunt might be more of a pain in the rear than its worth, but going it alone just gets you nowhere in this game - I remember that much ;) |

This. Find an active group of people to play with - they can help you fill in the gaps from your break. If njothing else, join Eve University for a while - at least until you get your feet back under you. Depending on how long you've been gone, and what you used to do you may find that the changes are minimal (scamming) or substantial (manufacturing, capital ship movement).

I see your character is 3 months younger than mine and you were in RVB. You might find a home in low sec in faction (Gallente) warfare. |

Null is more fun.
Industry processes have been simplified with a better UI and a bunch of annoyances and bottlenecks removed, but the actualities of it have gotten more complicated with the usage of teams and install costs. You can be deluded into thinking things are simpler and more user friendly. If you want to make money in manufacturing you will need to change your paradigm.
There's more ships, and the modeling, stations, stars, and soon asteroid belts keep getting prettier and prettier.
Things are balanced quite well, but there are still some major holes. Carriers are still out of balance, and it's still Tengus Online, Ishtars Online, etc. Sov still needs work. However, balancing progresses very quickly. Ganking is harder now and more balanced, friendlier to the industrialists who properly fit their ships. However, most people don't properly fit their ships. Awoxing is going away soon.
For all the changes, Eve is still the same game. It's still a mixture of some of the rote types of play imaginable (mining, missions) that you do while you watch TV along side some of the most strategically advanced and heart-pounding play you'll find anywhere (small gang PvP, etc.). When you're an industrialist, you'll still think it's too easy to get killed. if you're a PvPer you'll still think it's too hard to get kills and find a good fight. As always, your group will make the difference. A lot of people log in to ship spin and play World of Tanks. Other groups are better. It's still hugely a matter of picking the right group.
Overall you'll adjust to the changes quite quickly and find out you're playing the same game. So my advice is to repeat what worked for you last time and avoid whatever it was that made you leave the game the first time. |

Personally, I would have punched both Cain and Abel in the junk and told them to HTFU.

Wow folks, thanks for the encouraging replies!! Very much appreciated, all of you :)
So I see that exploration looks a lot more interesting nowadays - not just the phat loot possibilities, but things like this new hacking minigame (which looks awfully complicated, yet videos show people just whizzing through them - I feel like I'm missing some basic piece of info with them!) and those new "burner" missions seem like something worth checking out - how've folks found them?
I did enjoy my time in RvB, though I found the excessive station camping a bit off-putting. Lowsec FW looks like it could be a blast, though is there any actual profit (not loot) in it? Looks like it'd be more of a thing to do with a frigate when yer bored - again, perhaps I've missed something with that ;)
I keep reading about Nullsec and all the madness that goes on. Seems like a lot of sitting about waiting to be told how high to jump - is there opportunity to just wander off and do your own thing? I'd love to get into a carrier (about 1 month and a few billion isk away from it), but there really doesn't look like much opportunity to learn how to fly one well without getting ganked before you know what's happening. Is that something EVE-U does much of, or is that an alliance thing?
Thanks again for the feedback folks :) |

Freighters were given low slots and a role bonus to Bulkheads and can be much more heavily tanked at the cost of hauling capacity. So EHP can be increased while load value is can be decreased. Time has shown that most people prefer to fit for larger hauling capacity, though, which actually decreases EHP from before and makes freighters easier to gank. Reaction from the community has been mixed.
The Procurer was given an extra low slot allowing for the fitting of a Damage Control while keeping a relatively high yield. Also Procurer and Skiff have had offensive capabilities increased through drone bonuses. If I remember correctly, Procurer and/or Skiff also got their shield resist bonuses increased. I can't remember exactly all the details on these ships, but at this point Procurer/Skiff are effectively the barge/exhumer of choice for nearly all circumstances.
Deep Space Transports have had a whole new suite of abilities added. Concerning ganking, the overheat bonus allows a DST to be effectively unbreakable for a limited time.
Finally, the new Bowhead ORE freighter coming out will allow low, mid, and rig slots, allowing it to be fit to have over 400K EHP. It's nigh ungankable.
Basically, if you fit and play not to be ganked, you won't be ganked. However, tons of people don't fit that way, so ganking is still alive and well. It's a better situation overall. |

Being a "grunt" only sucks if you join the wrong corp/alliance. For me, it's been the best experience I've ever had in Eve. |

I would start with cancelling subscription and burning building in which your Eve machine is. Eve might get a facelift but under all that stretched shiny skin same all soul crushing evil awaits. Fight fire with nuclear bomb!

Don't worry ship spinning in the station all evening hasn't changed a great deal.
