I'm sure this has been asked about or requested before, and I apologize for bringing it up, but I don't see a search fuction to read what has been said in the past.
I think that its about time we have the ability to train an alternate character in its own skill. I have never played a game that gave you multiple character slots, but only allowed you to fully play one of them. What is the point of having alternate characters then?
I think that if the players really started to call for this, and even threatened to take a break from the game until it was implemented, it would happen in less than a month.

I agree, why bother having more then one char? Doesn't make much sense, but since a lot of people have more then one on the same account that MIGHT be using it for some reason. They can't just go and delete them all now. BUT they can make it so they can all train at once. I'm all for that

Why bother with more than just one character? Tbh, the money for a new account still goes to CCP, and can you honestly say you'd do the same thing for say, a SOE or EA based game?
Think not -

You did not have to pay for more than one account in SWG or Earth & Beyond (EA), you could have multiple characters and play them equally well.
EvE is the only game that I've seen this multi-character slot, but can't play those characters equally.
If this is simply a money grab, well then that is a sad thing. EvE is a great game, but it would never be worth enough to shell out for a second account...sorry...not going to happen.

Actually, there isn't an MMO out there where you can gain experience on multiple characters on an account at once.
If you believe me to be wrong, please point out such a game.

Versus, you are correct, there aren't other games like that. However, this isn't those games. This is Eve. In other games you gain experience by playing. In other words, the more and the better you play, the more experienec you gain. In Eve, no matter how much you play, your experience is totally reliant on real time. So you cannot make the comparison. It's two different mechanics for gaining experience.
In Eve, there's little you can do to speed up the experienec gain. Only through other skills and implants can you do so. But not through actual play. In other games, players will advance at different rates depending on how well they play/much they grind. It's possible for one player to get two characters to the same level in the same amount of time as another player's one character if he plays well/grinds a lot. In Eve, it's impossible. It all relies on seconds, minutes, hours, days, months. The latter of which costs us ú13 per!!
Other games don't charge by the skill point!!

And nor does eve.
Here, people have no need to train multiple characters unless they want to double their amount of gained SP. Any character can train to do anything, equally. In most vanilla MMOs, there is a level cap, and multiclassing has penalties to your effectiveness. If you want a mining and fighting, you need two characters, or both will be limited in their abilities further down the line. In eve, a character with 5million mining SP can learn combat just as effectively as one without. A different character is not neccessary.
All that would happen if multiple characters were allowed to train would be CCP would lose revenue (so as you can imagine, not going to happen) and that a lot of people would raise 2 characters at a time to sell, either for ISK or on eBay.
