Seriously, why do i have to be on this channel? So player rats can see who might be mining in the belts? so miners can see the rats coming? so people using cloaking devices can't sneak around without someone knowing they are in the area? To me this just kills the fun.

Those preying on others just have to use the ship scanner at a couple of positions in most systems to locate possible targets.
Minimise your local chat and try it in a couple of systems in HiSec that aren't main hubs.
You will find out quickly how to pin down possible targets within a few seconds.
There have been dozens of really pointless threads about local chat nerfs.
My recommendation would be to read through one of those until your head implodes for al lthe drivel posted in some of them.

Local's a long-time topic of nerf-talk, but has CCP listened? Nope, because they've said that local's here to stay, and its final.
Not that I'm complaining, considering it'll be a lot more coding just to remove it than needed, and people do like local because people can TALK to each other in the first place without opening up a chat channel to be later discarded.

I don't really want it removed. I just want the options to quit it.
Yes I know there are other ways to find people. but look at it this way, someone passing through may not take the time to locate someone if they don't know for sure they are there...

When they're on the prowl they'll have a look.
To protect yourself you'd have to scan your surroundings every other second - and miss cloaked ships.

with asteroid and belts in kali no longer being in fixed spots instead moving to different spots in the system on a daily basis u will stand more of a chance players iwll have to use the new scanning system to locate belts-ice belts planets etc - this will make it a bit more comfortable but noticed youre not in a player corp and oh all noob corpers are dead meat in low sec and 0.0 - so stay in empire

You are so wrong on this it isnt even funny, Oveur has said on several occasions that they are looking on replacing local or doing something with it as it should not be a recon tool.
Ideas like, making local work on a constallation level or dont show ppl unless they speak.

not all true... you can not quit your corp or alliance channal if you have them.. and you can never be out of a corp. But if anyone knows how to close corp chat with out putting it in a tab at the bottom of your screan let me know.

Except you don't know where they are. if they are in the same system as you.

BTW local isnt the only channel you cant close, corp is also unclosable.
I just wish that you would disappear from local when cloaked.........

CCP are always looking at lots of things - it's their job. With regard to it not being a recon tool, it will remain so until a suitable alternative is given and knowing CCP, when they do come up with an alternative it will involve spending 60 minutes anchoring some dumb structure, fueling it with marsh-mallows from the other side of the galaxy and even then it won't work unless you press a combination of twenty eight keys together while balancing a 4 pack of 330ml Stella Artois bottles onto the end of your *****.
I never understand P's like this: if you don't like local, just minimize the window  .

He'd still be in local. Closing a chat window means you no longer appear in it, which is what he wants to happen.
