EveLiveWallpaper is an >=Android 2.1 Wallpaper application, that displays a spinning spaceship from EVE on your Android homescreen.
This is a follow up from my posts in the old forum:
I must admit, that i haven't played much lately and also was busy for a few month building a Quadrocopter model, but now in winter i am back programming: The source-code has changed quite significantly in the meantime. Mainly i have been working on a separate set of classes to make use of OpenGL ES 2.0. That would allow to implement things like bump-mapping and specular highlights for Android 2.2 and higher. I am not there yet, just try to get exactly the same look and feel with OpenGL ES 2.0, as currently with the OpenGL ES 1.1 fixed graphics pipeline. This was quite some effort so far.
Ok enough waffle, here is the "old" download link. When the new version is ready, i will post it here.
Downloads: Installer - [EveLiveWallpaper.apk (v1.1.0)] (On the "External Link Warning" page do a Right-Click and "Save Link As..." if you are using Firefox!) QR Code with URL to APK - [EveLiveWallpaperQR.png] Screenshot - [EveLiveWallpaper.png]
Note: This version will show 5 days after every startup a notification to donate some ISK. If you keep it running, you should see this only once.
Release Notes: [26.01.2011] EveLiveWallpaper v1.0.0 (1) - Initial Release [29.01.2011] EveLiveWallpaper v1.1.0 (2) - Improve About activity and prepare for localisation
...Hm 10 months ago since the last update. Really time for an upgrade . |

This is pretty cool, man. Cheers for that.
However, on first run I got a couple FCs. Running Android 4.0.3 on a Nexus S i9023. |

Indeed, this is pretty cool!
Works fine on my Droid X running Android 2.3.3
I'd like to see a recreation of the previous login screen that CCP had. A station in the background, and a ship flying up close, turrets popping out and firing... and then flying off. :)

Love it. Great LWP. I'd toss 1$ your way with out thinking if you put this up on android market. Especially if you added more hulls! |

Hi!
@All: I added a preview image for the next version to the first post. Any comments? How "big" do you think the app should be in the worst case? Btw. I know i have no really nice Minmatar ships, but they have transparency and a lot of lights and without support to render that they look terrible, hence i haven't added any yet. Sorry!
@JeanMichel Bizarre: Yes i had one freeze requiring a restart on my Archos 80 G9 as well the very first time i installed it. However it never happened again. Odd! Once i get an ICS update on the Archos (end of the year probably ) i can try again. The whole APK is compiled with the Android 2.2 SDK plus a native library to work around some OpenGL ES 2.0 bugs in Android 2.2, maybe that stuff does not run smoothly on ICS, but i really don't want to create different versions.
@Wukulo: Android Market registration is 25$, and i would probably get tons of complaints that it does not run on device XYZ running custom rom ABC. So i haven't done it yet. Not sure if that thing is "mature" enough for the non-nerdy public. Mind you i have it running on Android 2.2 on my Xperia X10 Mini Pro, on Android 2.3.3 on my Galaxy S, and on Android 3.2.1 on the Tablet, so it can't be complete crap. I would not say no to whatever you think is 1$ in ISK though .
Bests, Andares Sol
