Ok so i'm back from 0.0 for a bit of R&R. In 0.0 I had a set of +1's or +2's... pretty much anything that I had lying around since I tended to lose 'em once a month :)
I'm now in th process of setting up a lvl 4 raven mission *****. I'll be setting him up as a jumpclone so I shouldnt have to worry about losing the implants. I'm torn on goign with a full set of +4/+5's to increase skill training time, or if I should go with a low grade Crystal set. They are about the same price aproximately. The high grade crystal sets are prohibatively expensive. I'm not sure if sacrificing up to 3 points per attribute is worth the amount of shield boost i'm going to get.
Now before you say "but you can run level 4's in a arbi cruise raven" I already do. Full t2 with arbie cruises and Heavy dim noses. Works fine. I'm just trying to tweak this setup so I can use t2 cruises so I dont have to come back and switch to torps on that odd mission where you NEED the torps for damage. I'd also like to cary prec. cruises to speed up the missions with lots of cruisers/frigs.
So basicly I'm jsut trying to make a build that completely optimizes lv4 missions in a raven. Think the Crystal set is worth it?

Well, according to the sticky, a full low-grade crystal set gets you a 33% shield boost bonus. So that's 400 hp instead of 300 hp. The question I guess is really if you're having problems tanking, and whether those problems can be fixed by skill training or not. If yes and no, then I'd say yeah, a crystal set is worth it.

If money isn't the most limiting factor and as it sounds you run missions in save space anyways, i'd say get your +4/+5 set and a gist-b (~400m) or gist-c (~320m) xl shield booster. Tech2 booster have a 1:1.5 energy to shield rate, the faction booster 1:3 so you look at 100% efficiency increase - which outperforms the crystals set be far (although they would stack of course) and you still get your learning boost. -------------------------------------- Agent & Mission-Info: http://www.eveinfo.com |

I know the gisti-b/c makes the msot sense, but I keep trying to wrap my head around spending what amounts to almost half the cost of a freighter on a single mod :)
I guess its probably the smartest thing to do though.

Yet you can afford a crystal set For some reason the fact that ~50% of the people replying to the thread fail to read and understand the point of the OP is hilarious. |

Well I am the OP.
The thing is a limtied crystal set with perhaps the alpha as ful lcrystal (its cheap) as stted gives you a 33% or slightly greater boost. Being that they are implants and its a mission clone you shoudlnt ever lose them. That whole set is about teh same as ONE good booster mod.
The trade off is that you also lose slot 6 for the omega which you could be using for teh decrease in cpu needs for the t2 launchers. Olus you lose 2 points to all attributes assuming you are comparing to a +2 set.
I can do all the level 4 missions pretty well. 25 milish sp's plain jane tech 2 stuff. I'm just struggling to figure out if the 1.3x boost ont he implant set is worth the trade offs.
I guess the next step really is to set up a t2 cruise raven and see what fits defense wise. I'm trying to keep the gear to reasonable levels because 1) I run level 4's for fun.. not to grind cash and there are months between running missions. and 2) If I lag out or drop connection I dot want to lose a bil in mods when my raven explodes :)

yes the crystal implants are worth it for missions.
low grade full set including LG omega is a hugh bonus.
it applies the bonus ontop of what ur skills do to whatever booster ur using.
large pith + 1 standard amp + LG crystal set = 500 HP boosted every 3.2 seconds or something like that.
in raven with XL T2 + 2 amps + LG crystal = like 1340 HP boosted every 5 seconds.
it's sick
makes ur shield tanking so cap efficient it's well worth it for mission ship.
personally, i gave up on the raven for lvl 4's. cerb is way better and alot more fun.
faster, locks all ships faster, gets rid of small ships and cruisers faster, it does everything the raven but faster except for BS's
a gang or 2 cerbs can absolutely own lvl 4's

It depends how bad you want your skills trained. Low grades are definately a good mission running investment especially in a raven. You just have to weigh the benefits, 33% extra boost or around a 5% boost to training time (for +4s compared to lg crystals)
Due to the lp reward nerf / more farmer mission runners a full set of +4s is down to like 340m. My suggestion would be to grab a set today, or just farm them yourself.
A little offtopic but: Like a previous reply mentioned cerb = level4pwnmobile, does kill slower than say a cnr, but costs around 1/3-1/4 as much fitted - you don't need no stinking crystals and can afk through most missions.
