Ya... Getting it up. A bird whispered in my ear the other day. If you kill larger NPC's than the ship you are flying, your security status will increase much faster.
My question is.
1) Is this true and to what degree? Say I'm flying a cruiser and I kill a cruiser, sec status goes up how much more compared to if I'm flying a battlecruiser?
2) What about drones? If I'm flying a battleship, but my drones kill a cruiser does that count as drone vs. cruiser or battleship vs. cruiser?

go to 0.0, kill battleship rats, your sec status will go up, it doesnt matter what you're flying, kill 0.0 battleships and your sec will go up.

If it was that easy I'd do it, but I'm not going to 0.0 so I can raise a sec status from -1.2 to positive.
You didn't answer the question... At all.

I think whoever told you that must have been smoking some of the good stuff 
As far as I know doesn't matter what size ship your in the sec gain is the same.

It's taken me 8wks mission whoring to go from -10.00000000 to -1.89. Thats alot of missions.... (and about 1.8mill lp which made a few isk \o/)
I didn't farm any of them just did them as quick as possible. You soon learn which NPC give the best gains. (all bs npc)
btw, getting sec up is overrated.. went to Jita and it's full of &*&%^&^$^%*^(*& tbh.

Back when I was in tdg i took my sec from pure -10 to -1,9 in like 8 days..

It was a bird, she was carrying a blue pill of somesort.... peculiar.
So no one thinks that the size of your ship affects the security status gain? Would be nice if the security status gains showed in your bio sheet were more specific.

Max you can get per hour is 0.125 sec increase from the best bs rats. Thats 1.25 every 10 hour. Doable is mutch less then 8 days tbh. All you need is loads of beer and no life
