CCP kindly reinstated the horrible warp sound in the latest build This brings to light that not only do some of the sounds (like the one mentioned above) suck to high heaven, there's also a couple rather important sound queues missing. For example why does my ship not beep or meep or give the slightest of sounds when its being targetted? There's a visual, but no auditory clue. Same for getting shot at, shields getting broken, armor being depleted. Please for the love of small furry creatures and beer, put some beeps in for those occasions! Holler if you're with me, fellow fliers!

shameless bump, i don't think this aspect of the UI deserves to be left in neglect as it is.

not only warning sounds.. cause those are nice, but guns. i cant recall the last time I actually heard my hybrid blasters going off. All i ever hear is the damn missle launchers and the explosions of missles (which are WAY too loud imo.)
yay ccp!

Yes... More sound cues... More seamless transition between sounds... We know there is no sound in space, but in a game we need sound... One thing that bugs me is that the effect I do hear are only audible at certain levels of zoom and camera position... These need to be surround effects and need to fade up and down gradually with zooms, not the all or nothing way things are now. Effective directional sound would be remarkably helpful in game.
And an in game MP3 player...
Okay... I can just use WinAmp... But as nice as your soundtrack is, I'm quite done listening to it.

Because someone changed the format or filename of the sound files without changing the program that references them. I had the same problem and look into the log files for errors and then into the stuff files. Some of the file that aren't sounding are '.ogg' files, yet the program looks for '.mp3' or '.wav'.

this file format thing clearly shows the sound aspect of the game / GUI is badly neglected. We need some dev attention to this issue. And yes i know most people play with the sound turned off. Why wouldn't they, the sounds are bad/useless anyways. If we're gonna reason along those lines, why don't we turn off the graphics too? We'd have just as much ionformation if we were to play the game in pure text mode. It's all database manipulation anyway, isnt it?

a possible solution there is a tool that can extract packeged files from the game. you can put a replacement sound in yuor game directory, following the dircetoty structure in resSND.stuff file in eve dir. There is a tool for extracting files from the .stuff acrhives. can't remember the name, but uncle google will help you

I really don't have a problem with the sounds themselves, I can mostly switch to a browser and just switch back to eve when I get the right audio sound; a ship poping, exiting warp etc. But I agree the user should be able to change sound levels. Fighting angels or guista pirate blobs makes me have to turn the sound most of the way down with all that missile spam.
Strangely I don't really mind the warp nose, but it could be turned down a litte, and that wouldn't hurt my feelings.

me neither but it would be great if it could be turned down, and of course i still want some more warning sounds. how hard can it be to get the ship to say 'you are being targetted... you are being fired upon... your shields are low... your shields are down.... your armor is being breached.... we are into hull!.... the ship is losing control' instead of only 'the ship is out of control' which is redundant, because at that time its too frackin' late anyway. <<<< No Boundaries, No Fences, Fly Free Or Die Trying >>>>
