I had this random idea yesterday as I was using my Nosferatus on a ship, watching my shields fall. Why not have a shield removing module that works similarly to a energy vampire? I assume it would have to cost capacitor to use, otherwise it would be hideously unbanalced (and may be hideously unbananced anyway, as it might be a rather nasty "I Win" button against most Caldari and a few Minmatar ships...) But still, there is something to the idea.
Small Shield Sucker I (I imagine a better name could be come up with) Capacitor Use: 20 Steals 15 shield from an opponents ship and boosts your shield by 15.
Of course these numnbers would have to change. Also, the whole small-medium-large thing might be too good against shield-using frigates. I don't know, people with more experience than I can discuss it...

I've got energy weapons, or as I call them, 'shield neutralizers'.
I just don't see the point of it. Shields regen automatically as-is, and it sounds like it would be more economical to just boost your own shield rather than use cap to steal someone else's - and with any weapon, you're going to be reducing their shields anyway.

Mods to reduce sheilds already exist. Blasters, rail guns, ect.
Sigs? We don't need no steenking sigs... |

A nos and a shield booster has the desired effect, but making a single module that boosts your tank while actually dealing damage to your adversary would be too powerful.
Ferox of Horror: 5x Heavy Launcher II, 2x Medium Shield Vampire 2x Invulnerability Field II, 3x Large Shield Extender II 4x Shield Power Relay 5x Hobgoblin II
Unstoppable.
Wait, I fly a Ferox. Yes, put this in.

well, if you would only have something sucking shields... doesnt that make Amarr, Gallante and to some degree Minmatar overpowered? because they are all armor tankers... they wouldn't care if the shields are gone... the armor is their tank...
while Caldari:"WHERE'S MY SHIELDS? NOOO!!! I DIE!!!" :(
Second sig removed, only 1 signature graphic please - Xorus ^_^WOOHOO!!! my Sig finally got nerfed... i'm 1337 now... |

As a caldari, I am against the term "shield sucker", as it is a derogatory term... shields do not suck, and we are no suckers ;)
I only want armor and hull suckers :) Or call them cannibalizers ? :P __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

*shrug* Why not? There are already ways to hurt shields and ways to regenerate them, so this is nothing radically new. It's like a NOS versus a neutralizer+booster.
A module that combines both functionalities doesn't need to be overpowered: first, it would deal no damage to armor or hull, putting it at a strong disadvantage when compared to a proper weapon (obviously, it would have to use a high slot); second, surely the amount of shield stolen (per second) would determine whether it is balanced or not, rather than the existance of the module itself?

Well, let's put it this way... passive regen, high-resists shield tanking (say, on a ferox, eagle or the future tier3 BS) would be severely nerfed compared to shield-boosting average-resist shield tanking. Anything that TAKES away shields/armor/hull DIRECTLY (ignoring resists) is a big hit against high-resists tanking of any kind... too underpowered vs "normal weapons" against sheer RPS (repair per second) setups and too overpowered against low RPS/high resists... you just can't balance the module right and not freak out half of EVE.
So let's stick to normal damages via weapons and repairs via self-capacitor... and only have modules that affect the capacitor directly, as that one has no "resists" of any kind. __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |
