Hi hardcore roidsuckas ...
I¦m totally new to Ice mining and so I have some questions about it ! Current status is: I¦m ( we ) living in a rich 0,0 area and have some POSs to feed but all the haulage and stress with gettin all the fuel from Empire to 0,0 is a mess so we think about mining ice ourself to reduce the haulage! We could use T2 harvesters and if it`s worth the time we would buy a fleet of Mackinaw`s!
Questions are: What is the outcome in relation to mining highends ( Crock/Bistot ). Is it better to stay with the highends, sell the minerals like we do now and live with the risk of loosing fuel on the way out to 0,0 or is it worth to mine all the Heavy Water,Stront and Liquid Ozon ourself instead the macro boys doing the bordom job of waiting 10min till the cicle is finished ?
Hopefully some of you have some experiences you would like to share to a total Ice n00b

With a fully pimped mackinhaw a cycle only takes about 350 seconds and you get 4 ice blocks at a time. It will never bring up more money then mining crock/bistot, but being self-suffient is always nice. An uber ice mining char is also a lot cheaper and easier to train then a mineral miner

How would mining Dark Glitter compare to mining Hemorphite or Hedbergite? What would be more profitable?

Look up your roids in the itemdatabase, note what and how much it refines into (remember skills, standing and stuff). Do the same with your intended ice.
Check prices at your favorite hub (Ice, however, may be more easily sold near 0.0 entrypoints... worth to look at). Also consider how fast it sells...

In the end, it mostly depends on how you valueate hauling from/to empire.
Think about how many hauling runs you could skip (or replace with highend mining) and what is the risk of getting popped on the run. Then compare that figure with the ISK/hour gap between mining local ice and highends. ------ No ISK, no fun |

Does mining Clear Icicle in a mackinaw with strip miner 2's and an upgrade make more isk per hour than mining kernite in a hulk with strip miner 2's, tech 2 mining crystals, and 2 upgrades?
Cycle time for ice harvesters with upgrade is 356.23 seconds.

You'll find many people, who run large POS networks, ice mine on an alt. The long cycle time is actually a plus, it allows you to read the forums more !

Nope, Nada, Never...
AVG EST CYCLE TIME for a Ice Miner, 8 minutes... I know you can get faster, but thats an Average...
So your looking at approx 3 cycles with strip miners, vs 1 cycle with Ice harvesters...
2 pc Clear Icicle = 160k isk per 8 min, Sounds ok...
3 Cycles with 2 Strip Miner IIs = 7500m3 Kernite = 6250 Kernite x 170isk... 1.06mil
Thats with a retriever w/ strip miner IIs. If you can get it down to 5/cycle with a mack, your looking at 640k/10 min, Still less than a Retriever getting kernite.
As for the Dark Glitter, Depends on your locality, It can out do Hedb and Hemo if you are in a mack at 5min/cycles. Just depends on the demand for ice in your locality, Out where I am, It (in theory, ITs on the market that high, but I haven't seen it bought, Nor have I tried to sell it) should get 1mil/peice, so your looking at about 8 mil per 10 min, Not to bad.

I second this comment!
There is no other action you can do in the game while doing yardwork. I set my watch alarm and run in the house every 14 minutes to move stuff to a can and then run back outside. My wife rolls her eyes , but it is better than a pvp op where my butt is glued to the chair for 6 hours straight and I ignore everything else going on around me.
Be warned -Of course this only works when you have a non-afk gang leader that can warp the group to the POS if hostiles come into local. Otherwise you come back to a clonebay and are out a boatload of isk for your Covetor/Mackinaw |
