Edited by: MaiLina KaTar on 17/10/2003 17:25:20 Yeah I know most of you all might not want to hear this but there¦s one thing I noticed again today:
While the forums are pretty much cluttered with a nice stinking mix of "I quit", "EvE is doomed, I quit" and the infamous "This game is crap and I like whining, I quit" threads I started to wonder why you actually don¦t hear all this whining and moaning ingame. Well, I could now write a 10 page essay about human mentality and more stupid blabla but I decided to keep it short instead:
The reason why you read so much whining on these boards is the simple fact that people only post here when they¦re upset and/or not playing the game. So what I¦m basically trying to say is: The whining on these boards is a natural thing and a result of the fact that the boards can¦t be accessed in the game itself. I hope you get the point. So next time when you read the boards I hope you realise that not everything is as bad as it looks. And remember that only real addicts whine loud EvE is a great game, in fact one of the best games ever made and we all will have fun in this universe during the next 6 years (minimum!). Don¦t let the boards do the review for you! Just take a look back at how much fun you¦ve had with the game, then look forward to all the changes that are on their way as we speak.
Well, that¦s it. I will definately stay here for very very long and while most of you might not even have noticed me until now I just wanted to say "hi" and I hope to see all of y¦all around during the next years. This especially goes out to Jash Illian, Joshua Calvert, Miso and j0sephine whose postings I often enjoyed reading during the last few months.
Oh and while I¦m at it. Visit www.tech5.de

Wrong. I play the game all the time, and I post here all the time too ;)
Otherwise you're completely right.

'Cause the same people who are sitting indoors playing this game 24/7 'cause they can't perform out in the world due to their mantra being 'I can't' is now sitting inside a station repeating that same mantra ingame.
Some people need help with their lives, that's what those threads are, cries for help, they have little to do with the game.
Have you ever heard of windowed mode? It's all the rage...

Err...I hear it all the time in game.
I heard complaints when a corpmember loses his battleship because he got hung up on an asteroid.
I hear complaints in local about several issues all the time, from Concord overreactions through ore thieves being protected by overboard Concord overreactions to how the market sucks. Other favorites are stuck systems, 0 volume sell orders, trade and just how utterly boring it is to mine.
The complaints are ingame too. People just choose not to hear them.

Edited by: MaiLina KaTar on 17/10/2003 17:46:43 Well Jash then you have gained experiences quite opposite to mine. While I read lots of whining on the boards the people ingame tend to be very relaxed and most of them seem to have fun. Sure you see people getting upset here and there and I never meant to say that the whining is not justified in quite a few cases. But whenver I¦m reading these forums I notice that you don`t hear anywhere as much whining in the game as you do here. And well, IMO this is a natural thing because people tend to have fun in the game and come here to blow some steam.
At least this is my impression during the last months.

this game is great, its been my first RPG and i love it, i came from shoot em ups and never really experienced anything like this. I have put up with the bugs since beta/release, i can & have put up with those cause the fun i have had over rides it. The only thing i whine about is the support. __________________________________________ 1.9 How can I participate in beta testing EVE? |

don't know what channel(s) you frequent MaiLina, but I see tons more complaining in the game than I do on these forums.
And that's in addition to the Help channel, which makes this forum look like a fanboi paradise.

Many people I talk to have complaints about the security system, the highways, piracy, carebears, server stability, killing the same npc pirate they killed a month ago, mini-roids, low end minerals worth so little, megacyte worth too much.
She sees what she wants to see. The game is far from broken. But it's way further from complete. Or well designed, for that matter. Simple concept flaws, like Electronic Warfare increasing the duration of ECMs per skill lvl. Which is exactly opposite what a person using a jammer would want. Sensor Disruptors being far more effective and efficient than actually jamming people. All the mechanics that dissuade manufacturing while the game is built with manufacturing and the market playing a core role.

Yes, EVE is a great game and so is Tech-5.
One of the greatest moments for me was when Tech-5 paid me 5 Million ISK after I alone blackmailed them (30+ people) for it while threatening them to destroy 10 of their ships if they refuse to pay. They didn't want to pay at first, then I bought a real player spy in their corp (RP baby!), shot some of their ships (in early cruiser days). Stonecold was proud, but after disturbing the operations of a 30+ corp for 2-3 days, he paid me :-).
Sigh, good old times. -- Kasha > Mastema, face the reality: All the juicy dots are gone. -- |

wow, who let the newbie in???
You should realize that you can play the game in a window and access the board at the same time. I'm in-game right now...

Me too. But afaik there aren¦t many people using two monitors and not everyone plays windowed.
And by the way it would be nice if you guys could try not to flame.

Sure. Seeing a "Molly you are nuts" changing to "We would like to pay you 5 Million ISK" made me happy :-). -- Kasha > Mastema, face the reality: All the juicy dots are gone. -- |

wrong, i USED to play the game and post at the same time. and i always had complaints in game all the time, same as many people i hear complaining in game when i used to play.
we come here cause here more than one local channel or our corp can hear us complain and moan. maybe we can open others people eyes or if not make them complain about us complaining and that way they can be just like us.
you should take some more psychology classes, might help you understand us more.
/sarcasm off
now the real reason we complain is because we arent happy with the game, sure many of them say im quitting but keep playing on and on, wont name any names, but some of us actually do stop playing. (me)
eve needs more personell working to fix the game, i mean what they have a CSR that takes days maybe even weeks to fix a problem, a GM team thats pretty much the same? what, do the makers of the game work as CSR also, maybe even GM everyonce in a while?
we have a right to complain, period.
