I dont know if there was any, but what was the reasoning behind the skills set for say, an Armor EM hardener II as compared to a Ballistic Deflection Field II?
Tactical Shield Manipulation IV Engineering IV
as compared to
Hull Upgrades V and Mechanic I
My point? Well lets see...do you realize that to bring that Hull Upgrades to level 5 it takes an average of 30 days?
Thats about 4x longer than it takes to get Tac shield manipulation to IV AND Engineering to IV.
Plus the Ballistic shield hardener has a faster repping cycle AND uses less cap. Is CCP out to get armor tankers?

Took me about 11 days to do HU V. Your stats must be pretty dire.

Average player, my alt just started a few months ago and it takes him 32 days.I imagine if a new player wants to train HU 5 it will take him the same.
Either way we all know training ANYTHING to level 5 takes longer than 4...so why?

No real reason, but it's not likely to change either. Tweaking skill sets that are already in game confuses people without the new prereqs and annoys the ones who no longer need them.

Started with 6 int and 4 mem. It is..er..Me need...2 hands of days and... 1 hand of hours to train skill. Lvl4 advanced learning skills + +3 implants 4tw!
Anyway, the reason for the difference is IMO this: TSM is a rank 4 skill. Training it up to 5 would take twice as long as training HU to 5. CCP probably thought that training HU to 4 was not enough effort for t2 harderners, but TSM to 4 (whcih are tiwce as many SP) was enough. Also, with HU you get a final +5% armor, while TSM does not really give you anything but the t2 harderners.

armour tanking != shield tanking
but if you really want to compare, consider that us armour tanks only have 3 specific armour tank skills (mechanic, repair systems, hull upgrades) + the compensation skills, when shield tankers have like 8 + the comp skills.. Agreed, the comp skills are prob more useful for armour tanks, but still you need more skills for a decent shield tank.
btw these skill differences are laughable when comparing t2 cruise missile bays with t2 large turrets ...

Altho, in the case of hardeners, longer cycle is better imo. And if you look at it the BSH has a cyle for 10 secs for 20 cap, while EMH has 20 sec cyle for 30 cap.
Which gives a cap/s rate for EMH of 1.5 and BSH 2. So in terms of cap, EMH uses less cap over time.

Well, it's more that the armor comps skills are pretty much an requirement for armor tanks due to EAN2 and you do not really train them at all for shield tanks.
And shield tanks have 5 skills. For 2 of these, shield up and TSM training them to 5 gives no benefit. YOu have there basically 6 * lvl 5 rank 1 and 6 * lvl 4 rank 1 skills. For armor tanks it depends if you see training the comp skills to 5 as worth it. It's either 4 * lvl 5 rank 1 and 4 * lvl 4 rank 1 or 8 * lvl 5 rank 1.
In short, shield tanks can get quicker to the t2 lvl, but armor tanks can "almost" max their relevant skills faster.
