Small Beam Lasers have been rebalanced:
+50% Damage Multiplier
-20% Rate of Fire
+25% Capacitor Need
-10% Tracking
+10% Optimal Range
Decreased Falloff: -33.3% for Dual Light Beams, -37.5% for Small Focused Beams
~17% decrease in CPU use for Dual Light Beams, ~5% decrease in CPU use for Small Focused Beams
These changes look significant. So they up the overall damage while keeping capacitor requirement the same due to rate of fire decrease, significantly decrease falloff while increasing optimal, and decrease tracking.
Will these be viable now on frigates such as the Slicer? Pulses with scorch already have an optimal out to point range on the Slicer (even with the scorch nerf), so I really don't see a point in using them there.
However, I could see them being useful on ships such as the Tormentor that don't have a range bonus. Perhaps we'll start seeing MWD long-point beam laser Tormentors?

I tried sniping confessors. They're viable until something gets close. Then your tracking penalized beams can't hit anything, drain your cap like no tomorrow, and have worse dps then pulses. Interceptors tear them apart.
The only advantage is dat 50km range in sniper mode. Unfortunately, you don't get the speed bonus or tank bonus in sniper mode, so you have to switch out of it to maintain range or tank.
And then there's the fitting. Its gawd-awful with beams+MWD. Requires 3 fitting mods/rigs, as well as external tackle support.
And, then there is the issue with using these inside optimal for Caldari Navy Antimatter loaded into 250mm Railguns, Medium Pulse Scorch, Light Missiles (LRML Caracals/Bellicose)...

Small beam have been viable for a while. Almost identical dps to pulse with scorch but this range out past point range.
This is gonna make them FOTM and tbh I see them getting nerfed pretty quick afterwards. Getting 220 dps out of a beam tormentor with an optimal of 28km (120 dps) is a bit ott. with a standard fit. |
