Can anyone help me out here, got into a little scuffle outside a station in Misaba 0.0 but still empire space. Was locked and fired upon by two blackbirds...they both had negative sec status but only -1.2 and -2.3 respectively. This occured outside a station and when they fired i got the message that so and so has committed a crim blah blah...and i thought since i was shot at first i could fire back. This is when it all went wrong,i target jammed one of them and proceeded to fire at the other, then bam im suddenly getting blasted by the sentires myself. The only thing i can think of is that they werent ganged and maybe one hadnt committed an offensive action so when i jammed it was me being the bad boy Apologies for being a complete noob, but this was only my second experience with the PvP side of the game, any help and set rules by which the sentries work would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like they were out of the sentry guns range or,as you said, you fired on a "innocent" guy.

A person attacking should supercede the sentry guns. AKA if they fired first, you would be clear to fire as you wouldn't lose sec rating to trigger the guns.
But if you lost sec rating attacking one who had not engaged you, you would become a valid target for the sentry guns. As you prolly lost sec rating attacking the one that had yet to open fire/take hostile action against you. Till he does, ganged or in the same corp, he's considered a bystander.
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann
Be careful out there. That other guy waiting in the queue for the gate MIGHT be a baby-munching frock-burner, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW!- Lallante |

Yeah but the thing is that the sentries should already have been firing on the person who fired at Enalla first. They obviously didn't.
That's the thing about calling for more protection (this isn't aimed at you Enalla) - the "protection" is likely to be just as bugged as whatever scenario led to the calls for "more protection".
What would be fun is to see statistics of how many players get whacked by Concorde/faction security versus how many get whacked by other players. I bet once you factor in the ongoing alliance wars that Concorde/faction security kills a lot more ships each day than PC pirates do

You wanted the pirates gone, now there void to be filled by a worse, more powerful evil
------------------------------------------------ Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly - the ill deeds, along with the good - and let me be judged accordingly.
If this world was supposed to be friendly CCP wouldnt have wasted time paying the devs to code so many weapons |

yeh the sentry guns all over the place have killed PvP in empire space its so boring now. If you stumble upon a pirate who is neg sec but not -5.0 you cant shoot them anywhere except at the jump in point. It totally sux. I'm going to stay out in 0.0 it feels safer there. |

Thanks for the replies,it probably was me who made the error as i did loose sec status. And just for the record i dont want pirates removed, this and the events afterwards gave me such an adrenaline rush and has renewed my interest in the game that was flagging due to just mining/agents/npc killing. Its fun again going up against people who want to kill you and now ive got the bug i want to kill them back Just need to learn from silly mistakes. Thanks again
