Anna Tomy wrote: Yes, the "hologram" optics are a matter of taste. But the old icons... This is a NO GO, every aspiring designer learns in school in the first week. They looked not simply out-dated, they were just bad. Illegible, terrible for usability. Even if it hurts, it's the right thing to trash the old icons... No more confusion.
I disagree about these new icons being less confusing; I find them to be more so.
In-Station: - "Insurance" and "Fitting" icons look almost identical. - 3 Icons (with different, unrelated purposes) have a "shield" as part of their design (Loyalty Point Store, Ship Insurance, and Bounty Office.) - The "Loyalty Point Store" icon is curently a shield with a star in the center and 6 arrows radiating outward. I fail to see how that better conveys the concept of "loyalty" than the previous icon of a uniformed officer with hand-over-heart.
Neocom: - "Personal Assets" (box-safe icon): Previously very easily recognizable as a box-safe; current version less so. Is that a gear on the front of that icon meaning something about configuration or... oh wait, that's supposed to be a box-safe... I guess. - Map and Market icons now look more similar to each other - the prior color differences helped differentiate these two. - Journal icon is less clearly a "Journal" compared to before. Perhaps adding a slight upward curvature to the top and bottom edges of the pages would help.
From a subjective standpoint, I find the new icons to be dull, flat, and uninteresting compared with their predecessors. Color and depth enhance meaning and recognition.

Querns wrote:Gonna have to agree that removing color as a visual distinction for icons is the right thing to do. Color blindness is a thing that you have to compensate for when making a user interface, at the very least.
Perhaps two sets of icons then, which would be controlled by a in the ESC menu on the "General Settings" tab.
"Use monochrome icons": Checked by default.
This would meet the needs of those suffering from colorblindness, while providing another option for those who are not and who wish to have colorful icons like before. Options are a good thing.

Why can I not have two of my windows directly together now? There's a forced small space between them in the new UI.

CCP Darwin wrote:If you tremendously prefer the old icons, please explain why...
They didn't have the problems the current set does:
The meaning on many of the current icons isn't obviously linked to the idea they're attempting to convey.
You've chosen to go with mostly outline/shape as your primary method for people to recognize the icon, but you've lost picture texture, dimension, and color which also convey meaning and aid in recognition. Not everyone recognizes things the same way.
The lack of color and "flatness" doesn't match a game so rich in texture and color. In fact, this current set looks distinctly out of place in this environment, more appropriate for an old PDA like the PalmPilot or an office software suite.
The transparent background (which doesn't obey the transparency setting) washes them out even worse, sometimes making them non-viewable when in a bright environment in space.

Jennifer Spearshield wrote:Dear CCP Staff,
A new fade effect was introduced to the game with the Rhea expansion, that's making the whole Market Buy/Sell confirmation windows + Contract System's confirmation windows feel very sluggish: Every time a pop-up window appears, the entire background is darkened with a fade-to-grey effect.
Please either allow us to disable it entirely or at least make the fade-time at least two-three times faster.
Regards,
I'd like to note that the fade of the entire screen to draw focus to the modal window is visually .... discomforting.
It's not bad if it only happens once, but multiple times in succession makes me not want to look at the screen anymore.
