Hi, Complete Newb here.
I finished the basic flight tutorial and got contact with my 1st level mission agent. I assumed (wrongly) that the first few missions would be fine with my basic ship. After getting beat up immediately on my first mission, I warped out and headed "home" to buy my first ship. I had 60k ISK on me, so I spent 1/3 on a ship, leaving me enough cash to insure and upgrade.
Now my question is, is there any sort of relationship between a mission level and a character's skill/ship that you can be reasonably assured success? I know little about the game, so I am still wrapping my head around concepts which many people take for granted.
Thanks for any help.

lvl 1 missions: should be done in a frigate, could be done in a destroyer or cruiser but it would be too easy.
lvl 2 missions: should be done in a cruiser, could be done in a frigate or battlecruiser, but once again it would be too hard in frigate and too easy in battlecruiser
lvl 3 missions should be done in a battlecruiser, could be done in a battleship, but not recommended
lvl 4 missions should be done in a battleship, bring a friend if you can.

That certainly helps.
Is there any sort of indicator that a particular Level 1 mission will be more difficult thant another? Can I assume that the first Level 1 mission will always be easier than the second level 1 mission which, in turn, is easier than the third Level 1 mission, etc?
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately not.
Generally the only way to know how difficult a mission is, is to check the rewards the agent offers and make a judgement off that.
A kill mission offering 20K will not be very difficult, but one offering 100K will probably be much harder.
Missions are given out at random - some people I know have been unlucky enough to get Worlds Collide (regarded as the hardest level 1 mission) as their first agent mission after the tutorial.

loyalty points offered is another good indicator as well..
if u are being offered 20 loyalty points, then u get one offering 100 it is gonna be a lot harder... :)
in level 1 missions u will always be able to run away, before you go in set your auto pilot out of the system if u get in trouble hit the auto pilot button and u will warp out.
eve doesnt have levels as such.
A battleship isnt the i win button and can easily be killed by 4 or 5 frigates
You level is i guess your skill points, but having 40 million skill points doesnt mean u beat a player who has 5 million skill points
setup and ship flown goes a looooong way to helping.
with the support skills and know how u can do level 4 mission in an assault frigate... -----------------------------------------------
No i'm not good... but i have never claimed to be -------------------- |
