Anyone else been noticing the EVE-Online displays and like poster board thingys at some stores?
I was ditching school the other day and drove down to Fry's Electronics near Pamona. When I was there I noticed an EVE-Online display. They were totally promoting EVE-Online. Homeworld 2 had asetup like that. Was wondering if this was CCPs worth or Fry's just doing something cool again.

From an interview With HomeLanfed.com HomeLAN - What can you tell us about the current subscriber and player numbers for the game and are those number in line with what you had expected for EVE Online?
Sigurur Ëlafsson - Currently we have just over 30.000 subscribers, it is a little bit below what we would have expected at this time but maybe not that surprising as there has been very little promotion around the game. Part of the lack of promotion was intentional to limit the size of the launch, as this is our first game and the launch is a lot more manageable if there are fewer players in the beginning. We have now gained considerable amount of experience in MMO operations and are hoping to introduce the game to a wider audience in the coming months.

EVE Online is no longer on the shelves at Best Buy, *at all*. Not only is it not being promoted, but BB doesn't even deem it worth carrying.
Bad sign for EVE. Once a store takes your game off the shelves for bad sales, good luck ever getting them to carry it again. ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Xanadu Corporation |

Fry's Electronics is not the only place that had those signs, I worked at CompUSA and we had them there too, I wanted to put the sign right in the middle of the floor, unfortunately I didn't have enough power. Even though Best Buy stopped carrying the game, doesn't mean that CCP is going down the tubes. Do you honestly buy your games at Best Buy? No, everyone buys them at CompUSA or Fry's

doesn't matter who shops there. it's a HUGE market for games, I know that place is packed 24/7 in my town. doesn't matter if people buying the game are tards or not. As long as someone is buying it and giving ccp $$$ to actually fix or add new stuff to the game. Best Buy is a huge outlet. Take it a way and that's a bad deal. ---------------------------------------

It is in Fresno, CA. Of the other hand, the Best Buy in Fresno has a rack devoted to MMPs. On the gripping hand (semi-obscure SF lit ref), half of said rack is filled by the umpteen EQ expansions, and another quarter is empty. - - - -
I have measured and described the stars, their great and countless multitude. What man has seen their revolutions and entrances? Not even the angels see their number, yet I have recorded all their names.

We won't talk about how many cruisers I lost this weekend, nor how many nice railguns, or T2 enhancers. We're going to skip right over that. We're going to talk about my new Raven. It is like flying a small city, and the city's only export is missiles.

Edited by: Ange Noire on 20/10/2003 11:36:54 Ppl who are just blind enough to don't notice that eve is avaible don't deserve to play.
I waited that game 2 years, i knew exactly when it was avaible.
Xmas soon, no worries, u'll have ur bunch of crybabies and 8 years old child running all around Luminaire (Beside nice and fair players, hey, that's only childs who got things at xmas, but they will not be the larger part) and asking for spare isk... prolly sooner that i would.
I like Eve with enough ppl to don't feel me alone, but hell, not too many.

In on Sale in the "Sale" at Game in the UK for ú20 or you can buy 2 for ú30.
No sign of any promotion though. Just part for the 2 game for ú30 range.

I personally would hope we keep this player base and they add all the features. I dont believe more people make the game better. I hope they will just get new servers like EQ. If they do they should not allow character transfers. --------------------------

Well, there is only one server, and the game is world-wide. I would guess that minimum amount of players online is around 2,5-3k and max is 6k. Count in some people that only play once in a while and you should get the number 30k quite fast.

I kinda feel sorry for people who will join up this late in game, they wouldn't know what has happend so far and they will probably spend very little time in their frigate. Which makes them less expierenced and easy prey for pirates or scams.

30,000 subscribers? hmm and the most ppl on were a little over 6k players at one time like 2 weeks into retail release. Methinks ccp is referring to the amount of copies made, not subscribers.

5-6k peak numbers seems reasonable for a 30k subscriber base to me.
I just hope they add the new content and systems in and FIX PVP! I'm getting very bored - you can't even have a good war anymore - ppl just peck at your heels then log when you show up with a force.

Unless you live on the East Coast (no Fry's for thousands of miles) and the nearest CompUSA is a minimum of 45 minutes away (usually 1 hour or more thanks to traffic), whereas BB (Bridgewater, NJ) is <10 minutes away.
BB here has a pretty good chunk of space devoted to MMOGs too. LOTS of EQ expansions, still a decent amount of space for DAoC. EVE wasn't even on the MMOG shelves when BB carried it, and I haven't seen it for 2-3 months at least. ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Xanadu Corporation |

Edited by: Lone Gunman on 20/10/2003 19:23:10 The BB in Woodland Hills, Cal "e" fornia did not have any EvE copies either. Unfortunetly they also didn't have any Max Payne 2's. But I suspect for different reasons.

I got my copy of EvE from Gamestop on May 5th 20 min after fedex delivered it. Everybody else but the UK had to wait another day if they bought it online. Even so the names Viper and Death were already taken.

The Fry's here in Phoenix has a nice display set up as well.
With Christmas coming up I hope CCP sees the potential and floods the market and magazines with advertising. This really is a fantastic game.
