Yes you can activate a trial account with a GTC.
However you will lose some days as part of the first time activation.
When I signed up, the players guide stated about 10 days of a 30 day GTC will be lost, but now I can't find any reference to the exact payment taken.

Yeah when you activate an account it takes 20 days i think of your first game card so a 30 day turns into a 10 and a 50 into a 30.

Interesting scam, so your first card really covers the cost of the 14 day trial as well, not really a 30 day TC is it then ?
May as well start a NEW account and not bother activating the trial.

If you payed for the game normally, before your 14 day trial expired, you would have 30 days of game time, and not 30+number of days left on the trial.
Trial isn't there to extend your playing time. Its there to get your feet wet and let you know if you want to play or not. Nothing is being scammed from you, since you can simply wait until the trial is over and then use your time code, or purchase the game.

Actually, I extended an account (not this one) with a GTC and got the full playing time. No amount deducted or anything. For actual proof, and not hearsay, here's a copy-paste of that account subscription (without identifiable bits):
Quote: Subscription Status:Active Expires:18/09/2006 Extend Payments made:2
Recent Transactions 19/08/2006EVE Time Code30 days 04/08/2006Promotional Game Time14 days
So, just go ahead and extend the account. You get the full 30 days. I'm guessing the reasoning is that when you pay for the account, you also pay for 30 days of playtime, as if you were buying the CD. It just so happens that the 30 day GTC has the same cost as the activation + 30 days, or something like that. I don't care how it works, just that it does.

Maybe CCP have changed the rules about how GTCs work, which is why I can't find any reference to it now?
All I know is, when I extended my account with my credit card, I paid 20 euros for the first month (which included 30 free days), then the monthly subscription changed to 15 euros.
Which would imply that CCP are penalising credit card users for some reason.
RKDZilla: you're not paying for the trial. You're paying for an administration charge to register your character, chargable whether you create a new account or upgrade a trial account.
However obviously something odd's going on here with GTCs and account activation.

When I activated my account half a year ago with a 50 days GTC i had the same scenario as Alessar - the full amount got added. No setup fee of any sort. -------------------------------------- Agent & Mission-Info: http://www.eveinfo.com |

As there's obviously a substantial backlog of petitions which I don't really want to add to, can I file one just for clarification on the whole account activation procedure with credit cards/GTC or is there a less important channel I can pursue this through?
