I have the same problem as the OP described on one of my computers. The problem is the computer; Eve runs fine on my other computer.

maybe, just maybe get off your whine mode horse and post your problems in the knows issues and workaround section.
beacause, the eve client is fine, BUT some crappy computers, older hardware and older drivers, comp configs dont work well.
so, in the end, its most likely the plastic thing in front of you, not eve.

Win98 (get XP) Possible poor ethernet port (reinstall drivers / replace card ) USB Modem i.e. speedtouch 330 or using usb connection on a voyager. ( get a router and connect to it with ethernet. ethernet cards are available from PC world for approx ú5 newer PCs should have them anyway ) Corrupt Windows install ( format disk and start again) Corrupt / out of date graphics and/or sound drivers ( reinstall / update) Wireless problems (try cable and as a tech support person I am continually amazed at the number of people who have a wireless connection to the router that sits 2 feet from their PC. 3If this fixws reinstall wireless card ) Run a speed test at ADSLGuide.org Possible noisy line. If its a lot slower that you were expecting report it to your ISP. run ping tests from the command prompt and see if your losing packets at all.
Lots of possible problems that are not caused by the Eve Client. This list is not definative but ought to cover most of the greatest hits.

I've had this problem as well. It started for me immediately after downloading the Dragon patch. My problem isn't as severe as the OP I usually connect within 3-6 attempts.

Originally by: Lady Gadiva I'm gonna make this quite clear before i continue, this IS NOT a whine about the state of the server, rather the mess the client is in after christ knows how many half baked patches.
Since Dragon deployment i have been unable to reliably connect to the server. I wonder if anyone else has the same problem. U hit connect , get the processing bulk data messages and all that , and then just when u expect to go to the character select screen, what happens?
Absolutley nothing.
It just sits there. So u hit connect and get some bull**** about local session information being corrupted and having to restart the client. So you do. And the same thing happens.
OVER AND OVER AGAIN
In the end i restart my machine. Sometimes that fixes it. But not always. Sometimes i just have to try and connect THIRTY OR FOURTY times before i get in. And then 10 minutes later my client crashes and the whole sorry mess starts again.
And yes, ive tried reinstalling the client. All that achieved was resetting all my options and deleting my BM folders.
Whine over.
While you are entitled to your opinion ... unfortunately, you could have easily gone to the Petition page and submitted at the very least an 'anonymous' petition under the Technical Support category. If you have done that and not gotten the desired results you could have at least stated that somewhere in your rant.

DO not use BT Voyager modems they are absolute crap crap crap. Get a major brand router, Lynksys, Netgear or such like. BT modems have big sync problems.
I have four of them here, none will work reliably. My Netgear router has never missed a beat in 12 months.

Your singular problem does not make for a great generilization on the state of the eve software client.
Also, format your god damn windows piece of crap operating system and reinstall it clean. Then put eve on it, I'll bet you 100m isk that your problem goes away.

Edited by: Sadistic on 27/10/2006 21:53:55 I run the client on two machines. My home game machine (XP Pro, DELL PE400sc P4 with ht, 2.4 ghz, 768meg, Radeon x850). And seldom have problems outside of my ISP.
My second machine is my Dell Inspiron 1100 Laptop (Windows 2000 Pro, Celeron 2 ghz, 512meg, shared memory junk integrated video (intel 82845GL). This machine will occasionally have issues on certain patch levels, but I know its a compatibility issue. I would not want to fight using this machine, but it is useable.
The point I am trying to make is that their are many variables that could cause problems. When a machine freezes at a certain point, its normally the NEXT point that caused the issue, you just never saw it. Use Eve search to check your video card, your sound card, your machine (mother board) for other peoples reported problems. Rename the current CCP directory and do a new install (this way you can always bring it back and keep all your logs).
Have you gone through task manager and inspected what is running on your machine? Do you have things like google desktop or any of the millions of other add on apps (non eve related) running.
One of my pet peeves about Eve is that you often have to go outside of CCP for support and questions. Thats the way it is, get used to it. A blatant negative post will always get you more flames then help.

Also if you are running Dual-core, it may be very likely you are going to have CTDs when traveling docking, a problem for which there seems to be no solution in sight.
Killing sound, clearing cache, reinstalling eve and adjusting affinities have grown standard replies and all show that the OP does have a point: the code needs some major revisions and or updating. ___

Remember that in the time between pre Dragon to now ALOT will have changed... Virus patterns, firewall rules, configuration in BT land. Not just the client.
So to blame it on the client is in fact WRONG. To vent here is in fact WRONG. As several other people have said it's time to GROW-UP. There are 30,000 people who can help you, just go through the n-th level of detail, and we WILL fix your problem, because that's what we're all here for (sort of).
Check things like firewall rules and antivirus settings, relax these as much as you feel comfortable doing, or replace them with other products, and give them a spin. For example, if you have the BT Home Hub, ditch the PC based firewall, and see what happens. *Ideally* ditch Windows 98 (did I read that right - you're running Win 98?).
Trial and error is unfortunately the only way since if you look at the 30,000+ active people online *every single person* has a different configuration... ever so slightly different, but still different.

Dude, I don't remember seeing "computer geek" as requirement for Eve. Drop that already.
And it would help if low level error messages mentioned logserver and links to how-to and workarounds pages, not forum threads. Also Eve support category on the left could use something like Problems running Eve?.
To the OP if you're still with us, you haven't seen many have you?

Originally by: Jiekon Firstly, seeing as the majority of players are not experienceing this exact same issue, your placement of blame on the client is unfounded.
Secondly, when the bug reporting website is opened back up to the public, please submit a bug report with log server files AND crash dump files.
You should have done this when you first experienced problems if you have not done so already.
P.s: Altho we may not reply to your bug report, be assured that it WILL be looked at and the appropriate action will be taken,
Jiekon,
I hope you realize operating a bug reporting system like this does not exactly instill confidence that something will actually be done. This is especially true if you compare bug reporting to the customer service situation.
I really urge CCP to look at giving some transparency to the process and allow all players to know what bugs exist, and what the status is (verified, unverified, corrected in xyz release). Don't tell me that this would take to much time, surely CCP has tracking mechanisms for bugs, they should be made public, or at least partially.

Agreed. Being notified on updates of bugs you report is a basic customer service. The current system treats players who report bug as people who's services CCP can utilize then discard. It is not a player's job to report these bugs. When someone does report a bug it is common decency to let them know what the status is. It would not be at all hard to add a line that automatically emails/eve mails the reporter when a status change occurs. This is just bad customer service

I have had the exact same problem since Dragon too, but its got a lot better since the very last patch. Clearing out the cache normally fixes it for me too.
My hardware/ISP/router etc hadn't changed. I'm in Scotland too though, maybe the networks packets decided to take the scenic route and got lost in the highlands or something.

Hrmph, more denial from CCP?
"Your accusation that its the client is unfounded"?
WTH... so something that worked fine for everybody before dragon... yet that for a small number of people is consistently broken AFTER dragon is obviously not the fault of the client? Use a little logic.
I get this error as well but only after dragon, the issue is not helped by clearing the cache or - in fact - restarting the client as the dialog box suggests.

same for me, PC no 1 is fine, PC no 2 is a nightmare and can take several attemps to log in.
have tried fresh reinstalls, checked the memory with memtest, had recently had a complete reinstall of Windows. weird tbh but I cant find the problem, but it isnt the client for sure.
