For the amount of time spent mining, I have found that at least in high sec, its the absolute worst money to time activity, on top of the fact you basically need to be doing something else, watching tv or something...while doing it...there isn't much to it (I appreciate its lack of attention demand)
Im sure nullsec mining is way more profitable.
Thing is I get the hate towards it. Its boring (please don't ever make mining an attention demanding task btw) its possibly the lowest profit activity in game aside from ship spinning in station.
I have to imagine that you lose a ton of ships mining in low/null where the decent money is, which probably negates the profits of being there....as well as probably requiring several players near to babysit you..
I wish there was more to mining than watching a 3min cycle time on boring looking rocks, while my drones methodically kill then salvage NPC's.
I cant possibly see how anyone with one character could go into mining and stay in the game longer than the trial however. Especially when they realize how much more profitable other activities and roles are...
my main toon has done just that due to space madness. for no less than 3 years solo.....yep i know crazy.....but you learn a bit intel wise that isn't really apparent at first glance.
you can find out a lot by sitting in one area doing the same thing. you can also find out a bit of information on where certain PVP'ers live when not shooting ships but shooting rocks themselves and your not shooting rocks but sitting in Cloak nearby. if done right mining can lead to an alternate spy role, one that seeks and finds information, not for profit, but a much more sinister purpose, one of vengeance.
don't underestimate the importance of such information though....you never know whose hands may be greased......EVE is a wonderful place, in sandboxes you can chuck sand or you can get sand in your eyes or you can get even.
not only that but if you pick your mining area's intelligently then you can get by without losing a single ship or paying a single ransom.
really depends on how you utilize what you have got at your disposal just the same as if you like shooting lasers at ships [which is the same thing as shooting rocks in space- no difference- beside the reason for tears if you lose your ship or your target of ganking, but those tears aren't really all that different as both parties cry about much the same thing on different sides of a fence]
sure mining is mind numbing [my other toon knows probably better than most, based on what i know here- which is limited to say the least] but those selfsame PVP toons do the same if they cannot rely on alliances or trade deals.
it's not so much a hate as people have mentioned.
it's that you do the same mistake without progressing the game forward, if your idle and don't do much you are a target of someone wanting to see a countdown timer or a module [weapon] just the same as you enjoy not shooting ships but somewhat enjoying shooting rocks.
best advice is don't make yourself a target. you do that by paying attention to what you are doing. and learn and move onward and ever upwards and slightly to the left.....seriously if i had to say i hated someone it'd be the scammers if not for any other reason than because i can. |
