Is there any other way of gaining back lost sec status other than by killing thousands of npc rats? accidently podded a merc frigates guy with splash damage and am now -2.6,and killing rats took me weeks with the time i have to play to get +0.6 
Any help would be appreciated

If you have a good enough agent, you can find one with services that raise your security status for a specific fee.......

Get an agent. (although it might be harder not being able to goto 1.0's) They can raise it upto 2.0, although not past 0.0

Not quite accurate Soren - some Concord agents can be bribed and will give sec status as well as a rise in faction standings
Course you have to have one of those first...

wait 2 days and ur back into 1.0s, all u need is a -2.5 status to enter a 1.0

wait 2 days and ur back into 1.0s, all u need is a -2.5 status to enter a 1.0
You need to be -2.4 or HIGHER to enter 1.0, -2.5 and you can enter systems below 1.0.

Thanks guys,i went the agent way....corp mate put me in touch with a lvl 1 agent from a corp(expert distribution Otela 4 m9) that accepts on dock and fixes ratings,unfortunately she wouldnt touch me till i was -2 or higher so i did a bit of work to get a lvl2 who fixes -4 or higher.
Side note pods should have more armour or somehing seems screwy that i get ganked by a bunch of frigates and end up a wanted criminal for defending myself and accidently podding one or more due to splash damage

So sec status does raise itself also if you just leave it? do you have to stay offline or can you still play whilst its fixing?

Actually thats wrong. I got podded by the Caldari navy at -2.0. you need to be -1.9 or lower to enter 1.0 space safeley.

Gain only 2.0 for sec from agent? youre crazy I have lvl3 sec agent that raises from -6.00 to 0.00. Max gain 5.13 for 865k.
It takes work to find these agents, but they help out a ton on those Oops i podded a guy in heat of battle, cause he looked like and egg, and I was hungry, and it was breakfast, and I like eggs for breakfast, so naturally i cooked it with a torpedo.
