I have read a post on this subject which has been locked.
I would like to know if any players who had this issue before have managed to find out what causes it or if they are still having it. I keep having it for quite some time now and it affects not only my connection to EVE but also my internet goes down as well.
I manage to log on afterwards but it is uncertain how long it lasts as it varies between a couple of minutes to up to 15 -30 minutes.
Anyone who has since found out what causes it could , please, help me understand what causes it.
I have been blaming this on my IP but need to be sure.
Thank you |

I too am having this problem and find it rather concerning. Hope it is only temporary. Uber hope it is not my iP. Ultra-Mega hope it is just a server side problem that can be resolved soon. |

Same here. After Rhea I am seeing way more of these - where in the past this was very rare, even during the DDOS days.
I've lost drones and I've been lucky not to lose ships, but had a couple of annoying disconnects in a middle of a roam.
I filed a support ticket - hopefully others do the same and it gets some attention from the devs.

I've been having this problem lately too (just recently started playing again). It happens 3-4 times during an afternoon. There's a litte something I'm wondering, though; Is the TQ Cluster IP still pingable, like the https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Network_Guide states? I've been getting Destination net unreachable from a Telia node (213.248.83.198) when I try to ping the cluster IP.
(I can access the game normally otherwise, excepting the times I disconnect, and I can connect with telnet on port 26000 to the cluster IP). |

I have got those "Socket Closed-¦s" since I started playing EVE about month ago. Sometimes I can play an hour without issues, sometimes only one minute. Haven-¦t found any reason to disconnects, my net connection is always fine during SC-¦s. It is really frustrating to play EVE when SC-¦s start happening. I can play other online games without issues, that-¦s the strangest part of the problem. For example World of Tanks: ping is about 80ms and no lags. I cannot ping EVE cluster neither, but connecting to EVE cluster goes without problems.
SC never comes instantly, first interface is unresponsive for about an minute, after that comes SC boxes (two of them). Usually I just start launcher again and log in when interface goes unresponsive - not waiting whole minute for certain SC messages... |

same here, 2 accounts keep disconnecting randomly, at different times and generally not even at the same time. Making the game barely playable and from what I have heard everyone I know has been experiencing this. |

In the last four days, also been getting more Socket Closed issues here as well. Checked my speed connections, no problem there. called my ISP, no short term outages on their server logs, no other internet connection problems with either websites or games. Could Someone in Authority let us know, what's going on ladies and gents?

Same problem for me, and also since Rhea. I can have 3 account going and only one of them will get disconnected. 2 of my accounts do it whether I have 1 or more clients logged in, one account doesn't have the problem at all. |

I am having the same exact problems as well. I have no problem with any other games or websites, but when it comes to EVE, I have clusters of socket closes and disconnects. Sometimes, I can go days without a socket close, but as of today, I've had about 20 Socket Closures. It's been extremely bad for the last few days, to the point I cannot do anything serious in the game or I'll lose something valuable.

I started getting this problem tonight around 9 PST, it's completely unplayable. Some other weird things happen, also, like some chatrooms remain frozen but I'm able to view other chatrooms fine, and fly and mine.
Really weird. I have the highest tier of Comcast Business internet in a major metropolitan area - their service guarantees the connection at all times within 4 hours. It's not me. |

Been having similar issues for a few months now. Our internet connection is fine for all other purposes, I have been on the the phone extensively with my ISPs very helpful support team and the problem cannot be daignosed because TQ does not respond to ICMP requests which means traceroute doesn't provide any useable results. CCPs support team has told me there is nothing they can do about this. I don't know how to proceed.
One thing I should mention is that if you have noticed that chat channel activity reduces the frequency of your disconnections try joining all the help channels and minimizing them. There is generally a lot of chat activity in the help channels however it can still be a bit quiet just after downtime. This is the only thing I have found that reduces the frequency of disconnections, Eve was totally unplayable before I discovered this in another forum post (I'm to lazy to look for it sorry ^^; ) and even then we still get disconnected ocassionally and myself and my flatmate have been playing a lot less as a result. |

It started happening to me today. The game keeps dropping every 5-35min with a socket closed message. It all happens while the [rest of] Internet connection seem completely fine [anything that I'm dling - is still dling, voice comms are fine, pinging google/some other servers returns no increase in ping/packet loss]
While I'd gravitate towards blaming my ISP, the issue seem to be more complex than simpy 'your Internet sucks, mate' - and that simply worries me. |

Yeah. It is extremely annoying. The connectivity to the EVE servers is too sensitive and drops easily at the same conditions when other MMORPG don't |

echoing others. I'm having MAJOR CONNECTIVITY ISSUES. 1 or more clients will randomly drop out, all clients become extremely sluggish and slow to respond to simple commands.
Please fix this, as said before it makes the game unplayable. |

My Problem was fixed by installing this program. Latency Fix adds registry entries (google: TCPNoDelay & TcpAckFrequency) to the network interface. After i've disable/enable my network card, i don't get "Socket Closed" Errors.
Hope it works out well for you.

It's insane this problem is being ignored. I wouldn't blame our alliance for kicking us since we can play so little at the moment. The problem is getting worse yet CCP won't even acknowledge this is a problem. I've seen devs respond to other threads on this board, why not this one? |

It's hard for me to play when my own corpmates are constantly disconnected and while I'm not the biggest victim of socket closed my inputs can have several second delays that result in me getting killed or losing point and I know I'm not alone in this. Other more bandwidth intensive games don't experience issues even when I play them on overseas servers so I don't buy into CCP's excuses.

Tripleboxing. Last time I got it (two days ago), only two of the computers got the "socket closed", and it was 20 min between them. So I guess not the ISP.

Seeing as we can't tracert I looked up the old ones and saw Telia......There have been times where Telia has made World of Tanks unplayable for large chunks of people because that one hop would add a huge chunk to the ping and drop ~25% of the packets. Is this the case here?

Starting two evenings ago, the waves of socket closed ramped up to ludicrous speeds for those on my watch list. Last night before Tiamat went up, some in our chat tab were getting 4-6 disconnects in less than ten minutes. Now that Tiamat is live...
oh Mai~!!!!
I've been lucky today and not nailed, but the notification chime is binging constantly from those both in the chat tabs I'm in along with other toons I've marked for one reason or another are disconnecting in giant chunks over and over. CCP, come on, at least let us know there IS a problem and it's being looked into, the silence is speaking deafening volumes by now. That tends to develop irritation, irate feelings, and hostility down here on the player level.
Ignoring a problem many are having will not make it go away, and a simple, hey we're working on it, buys you some comforted players who are paying to play a game that keeps us amused and you employed. So consider an acknowledgement of our issue, it might calm some upset.

I have daily socket-closed errors. It really makes the game unplayable to me and as such, I am seriously considering unsubbing my 3 accounts.
I've reported it but CCP insists it's my ISP. I checked my packet losses and it shouldn't be on my end. This is the only game that I have this problem with. I'm with one of the fastest ISP's in Europe. I am not the only one with this problem and CCP refuses to look into it, so I have no choice but to stop playing. I don't want to, but I see no other option. I'm not paying for a broken game. |

Just checked for any alerts relating to server issues and there are none. There also does not seem to be any large scale player drops which is usually an indication of a server issue.
Speaking generally about Socket Closed issues I genuinely know how frustrating losing connection is. But if there's no indication of any server problems or problems on our network then there's not much we can do.

Coincidental with Tiamat. I have just had major socket closed issues start. I followed the guide and found a problem at line 1 : I cannot ping the server without 100% packet loss; so did not even get as far as testing the ports.
Ok, so I have some questions for my ISP later on today, but I can still log into the game for a short period and seem to get responses from it (market checks, market interaction, mails), how is this possible with 100% packet loss to the server? I used pingplotter and this is what I get:
Target Name: srv200-g.ccp.cc IP: 87.237.38.200 Date/Time: 19/02/2015 05:56:23
1 0 ms [my IP address] 2 19 ms [213.1.112.96] 3 20 ms [213.1.115.142] 4 22 ms [213.1.79.54] 5 24 ms [87.237.20.140] 6 * [-] etc 35 * [-]
Destination not reached in 35 hops
I do it to google and its ~23ms average and successful. I get the impression I get close to the game server (1 hop?), so is this still likely to be an ISP issue? If I can get any additional questions to tackle them with, I would be grateful. |

My solution for socket closed errors!
I recently upgraded my XFinity modem to the new fancy thing they have out, which also happens to be a wireless router. I was content with my own wireless router, so I just disabled their wireless signal and hooked up my home network, plugged the new modem into my existing router, and things appeared to work ok.
Then I started getting socket closed a lot on Eve - but it was sporadic... sometimes 1 client would get it, sometimes multiple clients would get it across multiple machines. But netflix was working on my PS3, and wireless connectivity was ok. Eve was semi-playable at times, other times it would socket close 2-3 times a day.
I did some fiddling with the layout of which machines were plugged in where, and managed to randomly get different clients to get the socket closed - sometimes it would go away, sometimes I couldn't even browse the internet!
I got frustrated and did what any customer ought to do - I called xfinity's tech support and explained the whole situation and my setup to the nice man who gets paid to know more about networking than I do.
The solution to the problem *I* had caused, was right there in front of our faces as soon as I mentioned it.... I had two routers on one network fighting with each other! I had forgotten that the new modem was also a router.
I've not had a single socket closed error since that day.
TL;DR: Do *not* use a 2nd router with a cable/whatever modem that also acts as a router.
(*EDIT* ...unless you disable the routing ability and turn one of them into just a switch that is.)
Hope that helps someone :)
I find that without a good mob to provide one for them, most people would have no mentality at all.

Well, for some reason I can never ping the game server on the address above, but last night played through with zero socket closed / dc's. I really don't get it. Is the server being suggested to ping correct? Is there some other voodoo on my machine that is hyper-spacing a server connection? Is this the real life, or is it just fantasy .... ? |

Reading between the lines of what GMArcade is saying and this overall difficulty/impossibility of getting a solid ping trace, seems there's a spot on the route to CCP's game client server that's having some serious occasional dying issues. Wonderful, wonder which company owns the mostly dead spot on the route that's dropping so many into Socket Closed in waves that come and go.
Well I know it's not in my local route out of TX, or at the CCP end according to GMArcade. That only leaves.... ummm... how many flavor combinations in the bag of interwebs Skittles are there again?
