Why is it that in a pirate's mind, it's OK for 3+ pirates to sit at a gate and attack a ship trying to pass through, BUT, if that same person comes back with 2X-3X the pirate's force to lay some smack down, the pirates always run and yell "you had more people than us, that wasn't a fair fight"? why is it fair to them that they can vastly outnumber a traveler(s)in a fight but not the other way around? hmmm...makes you wonder And why is it that almost every pirate I have encountered has to be so arrogant? (Even after they have run in fear, yelling "your not fighting fair" over their shoulders)

Ive seen this too. But it's even a fair fight that gets them moving. Pirates of the high seas that used to fight never really lived that long.
As for the arrogence, they all secretly want to be Stavros.

The smack talking in local by rats is tiresome.
When we go hunting, we never speak in local.
I do see what you are saying though, lone rats seem to talk crap, calling u all the names their small minds can muster.
But i have found larger more organised rats to keep talk down to a minimum.
Best way to shut them up though is to pod them, that most deff shuts them up :).
dude!!!! why u pod me

Its just what weve found Fetty. MF seem to be 1 of the more honourable pirate corps, although we havnt seen a great deal of u guys.
We can hold a rat gate, and maybe a lone rat comes into the system and he starts shouting his mouth off.
Its very hard to keep away from local, but we never get into slagging matches.
Although once i did tell them our battle plans, while mistaking local for "gang chat" , that was very embarasing .

The lone pirates I've met haven't talked smack. The one I met last night, bless him I think he was just starting out as a pirate, was very polite. When I warped out of the belt in the badger he was trying to shoot up and asked him to wait while I went to fetch something that could fight back, he naturally declined and we had a fun exchange before he went on his way again. No insults, no swearing, just a bit of fun banter. I've met several like that, as well as several who have said nothing at all.
Of course I've also seen logs on these forums where they're smacktalking their heads off, so I guess it all depends on the person. There are plenty of non-pirates who talk smack in a big way too so it's probably six of one and half a dozen of the other.
Why is it that when someone tells you that there are over a billion stars in the universe, you believe them, but if they tell you there is wet paint somewhere, you have to touch it to make sure? |

Verbal sparring in local not only looks unprofessional, it also means the person is not paying attention to gang chat for vital orders given by the commader.
A helluva lot of pirates talk smack in local, and I just finda so bloody funny that some of them can fill a whole chat clipboard with their own chat.
If I had my own corp I would kick people out for smack talking with pirates during/before/after pvp. Nothing ****es me off more

speaking of lone pirates, anyone ever notice how a lone pirate will come into a system and dare you to try and kill them, and when you do, they get all offended?

What really *****s me up is when the person smack talks and claims to be 'in character'. Sorry, but it doesn't wash when you're spouting filth about someone's family lineage or their sexual preferences and hiding behind some pseudo-facade pretense of roleplaying.
I recently read (in this forum methinks) where a local convo was pasted in and had one player continually saying 'noob' over and over and over again. It was like listening to parrot with a carrot stuck up it's arse. I seriously don't know how saying 'noob' repeatedly is going to make someone feel intimidated. Makes me wonder why some people actually have the audacity to climb out of the gene pool.

NO, But b4 I found my self having to run from people coming to kick my ass I would take the time not to be arrogant. If your going to be a pirate and sit around thinking up names like carebares to call everyone, fine have it, that's great, all of eve is proud of you for being so dedicated to a cause, just keep in mind the fact that it's a GAME. People play games to have fun. Not to have a 12 year old using all the cool new four letter words he learn the previous day at school over and over

the answer.... it is cos, pirates pirate to make money... u miners kill pirates when u are bored of making money... if u die u arent that bothered cos u made the money...
now if the pirate dies making money, it would be like u dieing with your miner II`s and Battleship mining that roid with them expanders etc etc...
so us losing a ship to a pirate hunter is to be avoided....
u telling me if a fleet warped into a belt u were mining at u wouldnt run?? same difference.... u choose to make money peacefully, we choose to pick on the weak and run from the strong...
i`m done...

I've seen this happen too.
Tank CEO and Kakalot were camping a jump in point in Sarum and were very brave against one Maller, destroying it. I went in and started shooted from my battleship and again they were brave 2 v's 1. When my friend in the same system warped to me, now evening the odds, Tank imediately ran to a station and docked.
Kakalot remained, fought well, took some damage then warped. Tank then logged off in order to hide and completely left his comrade to fend for himself.
Up until this encounter I'd had some respect for Tank and pirates generally. Now I can see him for what he is.

The truth about pirate bravery is surfacing finally All they can do is type cool (but not very intelligent and complicated) sentences in the forums and local chat. But when the going gets tough most of them turn all yellow So how do you PVP chicken I must ask? ______

I want to do it, anytime. Just give me a few days to get all the modules I've lost back.

To type intelligent and complicated you need to master the language perfectly. The world has many other languages and many of them are very different than English. Using simple words and syntax could mean that the person is just avoiding to make mistakes.

It dont really matter whether the superior force is pirate/goodguy, VA, NVA, CFS, CA, SA The bigger group will deperately try to taunt the smaller group into a fight with the smacktalk out of shear frustration at the fact the smaller group if it has any intelligence at all will not warp into a blaze of certain destruction. They will quite rightly be sat in midspace either planning escape or scounting around.
This of course should all change when the new modules come in that allow you to follow players in a warp, track them down over several systems and whatever other goodies lie further down the line.
In the meantime - stop taking smacktalk so seriously and have some fun with it - face facts that u prolly aint gonna see a fight until you are outnumbered at which point you will run too. Just keep it clean and have some good ol' banter with the enemy. ---------------------------------------------------

Personally I have found that smack talk of whatever form is much more a reflection of personality than it is of vocation. I have seen extreme rudeness, total silence and good manners all from players of various vocations. I have heard the most most incredible abuse in local from Vito GF, who apparently is still in the game, but I've also heard it from law abiding people angry at a blockade for ruining their hour/day/week/month. On one or two bad days I have said a profanity or two on local, but can handle myself well enough not to "go off" on someone just for taking a potshot at me (or, as in 2 cases now, for putting me in a pod).
There is a *special* form of smacktalk specifically designed to get the other person to come out to fight. As long as it doesn't violate the EULA or good taste it is the only kind I am okay with, as pushing a few buttons to try to motivate someone to go nuts and take a stupid risk is frankly an invitation to a Darwin award, and will result in an improvement to the gene pool, regardless of what side of the law that impulsive chappie is on.
BW
PS. Regardless of the above, there is a certain irony to *any* player implying that their opponent is a coward/carebear/noob/ whatever because they are unwilling to face uneven odds, if you then are going to be a person who does the same thing when you're outnumbered. And again, I've seen both law-abiding and pirate players indulge in this bit of hipocrisy too

Smack Talk happens. End of story.
We (MF)avoid it, but I guess most of us have gotten a little excited once or twice and gave a bit of abuse in local. Most of the (hi-di-hi) gate campers that give constant smack talk are aged around 14 yrs old and are on a power trip in their battleships. However, once you get talking to some of the pirates, they are fine and even have a bit of a laugh with you.. I know some people don't like hearing some of the language that's out there in EVE but, hey, go down your local bar/pub and it's there too. Eve is Real People protected by their PC 'shield'. Don't worry about it. Close your local channel if it upsets you. At the end of the day, Most people on EVE are just out to have fun in their own way. Smack Talk and all. What am I going on about? I'll go now. Sometimes I worry myself...
