If you enable timestamps in your local channel you can see when you last switched systems. That along with arithmetic and your system clock will tell you what you need to know. |

im very well aware of the timestamp. But why cant we have a timer? it seems like such a simple thing! Boosters have timers combat has timers, and now fatigue has timers. why is it that we cant get one for something as simple as polarization.

Seems simple enough to add next to the session change timer. Would free up a little room on my desk, I have a 5-minute egg timer next to my monitor.. |

The only problem I see is that the timer could cause confusion for new players ("I have a timer and I can't jump into hisec!!!"). Technically it's a timer for a specific wormhole only and not a global variable. Not sure how to handle multiple jumps/timers. Maybe you could have it based on wh proximity or something? Not sure. |

Was just discussing this issue with someone. CCP could make it an overview setting, or a halo like when an npc engages you. BOB doesn't like it when you're informed though.

That's one of the issues as I understand it. You could have multiple polarization timers on multiple wormholes going, so how to represent that on-screen is a question. If not in space, next to the wormhole, or on the overview, which would be a new thing altogether afaik, then where? It could show in the upper left with a system and sig id, but I'm not sure that the sigId is synonymous with the wormhole. And in any case it would tell you which sig a wormhole is without having to scan it down, which is kinda circumventing the scan mechanic.

The idea stated before with having the timer over the wh itsself. Like part of your scan overlay that shows you bookmarks and anoms on space.

PS: Fozzie talked about this on DTP and he said it could potentially be like the engagement timer where only the longest one shows if you have several for different WHs.

Which would be a bit daft, imo. Hopefully those manning the DPT mic that night disabused him of that notion. Showing one timer out of many is pretty pointless. In a wh with 5+ connections (pretty normal now these days) seeing that the longest timer still has a few minutes on it doesn't help those needing to know if the polarity has expired for a different open connection. No matter what, kepeing track of what which holes have been jumped and when is still going to be important.

I'm not a fan of this idea simply due to the visual clutter. When I have a weapon timer, a log off time, a drug timer, etc, one more timer on my screen is the last thing I want. My concern with a timer on the hole is server lag if each pilot in each fleet has one. I'm not sure how that would work. |

I'm of the personal opinion that giving people plenty of opportunity to fail is absolutely essential in every game. When you start to develop the mindset of coddling poor or inattentive players, you are also limiting their ability to excel.
Conversely, the mechanism is already there (local channel) so it would probably not really effect game difficulty, and only game transparency.

Yes and after that add a timer timer so you can see when your next timer is due to start.
Actually I still don't understand why there is jump cloak for WHs. On gates sure but WHs what is the lore for that one?
Anyway my 2p is that there are already too many times. I can always click on the WH and try to jump and see exactly how long I have left to fret over my personally stupidity. If I'm worried about someone in the hole with me taking advantage of the fact I'm stuck there, then I can bounce between BMs for 3 minutes if I don't have a cloak (use a watch or the EVE clock, it's easy). |

Yeah mate, this would be very nice and handy. But you have to think about on the other hand that wspace should be dangerous and unknown like it was planned. So use the timestamp only, be fine, feel in advantage that you're knowing this. The more "help" is inserted into wspace make it less to get these freekills, these 'oh gosh why i fckin' cant jump back' guys. Don't fix wspace into newbro space where all get their help. |

gonna be hard to make. there isnt a unique part of a wormhole connection that we can see. so it could give wrong information. ie with 2 connections between a wormhole. so for which one is the polorization timer tell me XD or what i would maybe like more is some sort of count down on the object itself in space or overvieuw or on the jump button. |

As to the topic of the thread: The biggest thing I like about wormholes is that there's something of an art to living here. WH life sucks, and we kind of take pride in that. Rolling holes perfectly and under stress, or knowing how have 100% complete hole control, or knowing when your polarization timer is up are examples of that art. It belongs to the people who have experience here, and I don't want wormholes to be made so easy that there's no longer any mystery.
Might as well add exact mass and time left to the info window on wormholes. |

Because it is important to be able to jump into a camp and have time to bookmark before you have to try warping away. Also you always need time to load the grid otherwise the othe side has a huge advantage. |

Polarization is wormhole specific but not system specific, so each wormhole has 2 timers on it on each side, which means one jup generates 2 timers in 2 different systems at the same time, on top of which, given the structure of w-space chains, there's a good chance you'd jump multiple wormholes in a short time span, which means multiple timers the game keeps track of, with no real corelation to the information that would be displayed on your screen. Do you want the J sig with revelant timers? there would be a few per Jsig. Do you want wormhole type with its timers? most people don't remember wormhole designations.

The problem with this isn't putting the timer in, its visualization of the timer so that the average person will actually understand it.
Its not needed. I do believe it will add unneeded clutter to the UI, and it will also cause people to min/max something that wasn't min/maxable before.
Similar to how mass is calculated, its a guess. There has to be some mystery left in wormhole space to make it interesting.

This wouldn't be like wh mass. The timer isn't a mystery now that you can add the time stamp to your local session change msg. So there isn't any mystery. If you can find me anything within the EVE system that gives you ANY mass info, I am all in your corner, but that is a bad comparison imo.
This timer wouldn't be adding info. It would be just a matter of displaying it. I don't see why you couldn't have it on wh itself. An additional timer, like agro, could also work, but it might clutter that part of the screen. |

Actually, we know Polarisation timer. It's min-maxed all the time if you just turn your local chat timestamps on. That was something that people learned. It wasn't spoon-fed to them by some automagic UI popup from CCP though. It isn't needed. It removes more of the "flavor" and the "knowing the system" than it brings to the table. Aside from those reasons - it would be a visual CF. It's already possible in all areas of space to see 3-4 timers at the top of your screen and that's without needing to worry about another indicator for every possible polarity scenario encountered.
