Edited by: Shanzem on 09/09/2006 22:32:18 hay CCP and guys n gals,
just a quick question.. why did you put the memory size in prefs ini down to 80?
wasnt this your base memory before and an old way to solve the memey leak issue?
maybe the current lag is not all server side but client? could other people of EVE please post there prefs ini memory cache?
mines 80.. and i know sufferr from memory leak when running more then 1 account.
well thats all :)
EDIT : before patch everyone were there base memory .. AFTER patch its been changed to 80
please people check your prefs ini ..
can be located at C:\program files\ccp\eve\Cache\prefs.ini

I changed my buffersize to 256 a long time ago and it did not change with the patch. It's still 256 and it was NEVER my memory size. In fact back when I changed it it was originally 80. Oh and I'm lagging like mad.

i'm running a fresh install and it defaults to 80, lag seems unrealated to it though, at least client server type lag i.e. activating modules, opening windows and jumping I believe increasing that value helps with client side graphics lag i.e. deadspace fps hits and other fps drops from game effects

Oh i have no doubt the client plays a large role in the lag but it's more of an indirect design problem. ![Laughing](/images/icon_lol.gif) I'm not sure what that buffersize option does but it made no difference that I could see when I up'ed mine from 80 to 256 several months ago.

This thread has niffty info about speeding up your client which may assit some people, it is however, 2 year old advice.
You should set your buffer size to half of what your memory is (in my case 1 gig so 512 buffer)
However I run two clients so instead I have it set to 256 for both so I don't slam my memory. I run eve windowed and changing this will decrease you loading times but may not prevent low FPS issues as that is a graphical processing issue and not a memory fault. --------------

If running single client set your buffer size to 1008
If running more than one client on the same system set to 512 (for each eve folder if you run your clients from seperate folders, otherwise keep it at 1008) --------------

It's just saying how much memory EVE can use to buffer textures and such. Default is 80 meg, most people set it to 50% of their memory size, although EVE RARELY EVER takes more than 250 meg, even if you set it to 5000 meg. _________________________ Corp: www.ravenwarriors.com Cache Clearer |

It makes it use more memory rather than thrashing the hard disk, which is a lot slower.

I changed mine from 80 to 256 and also because I run dual clients, also did the CPU thing, and went for belownormal choice on both clients, and it for me at least (Celeron D series 3.2Ghz) very much smoother, and disconnection happens a lot less, it lags at times, but it doesn't drop the connection so easily, it just seems to hang in there much better.
I am puzzled though as some say increasing that 80 number is because its a ram cache amount/size, and some others say it should be smaller as its a latency thing, anyone know for sure just what its for ?
