Ive been flying a harpy for quite a bit now and ive varied my setups but ive not really found one that is great, ive heard great stuff about the ship.
Reading the forums everybody says fit 125mm's because of tracking, but I have found 150mm's to be fine on anything except inties and the range+ damage is better. First setup was:
4 125MM t2, 'arbalest rocket launcher' Small shield booster II, Photon scattering II, 1mn ab II, 20km scrambler. Lows, magnetic stab II and either a pdu II (cant remember if I was able to fit this) or co-processor.
The ship was nice, damage was ok, I sometimes switched the AB to a web when I wasnt using javelin, but I felt I was lacking the power of this ship. I tried another setup with 150mm's and here's what I have
150mm t2 Mids are same co-processor, cap power relay
I wasnt able to fit the arby rocket because of cap/pg restraints and not enough cpu to fit a pdu II, but the 150's extra damage and range is way better I think.
This setup is designed for pvp ofc, with a mixture of tackling when in small groups and flying solo (which is hard with caldari because shield tanking and tackling dont mix). The em hardener is a must or it will be killed quickly by anything amarr, but does anybody have any suggestions on a mean harpy for solo/small gangs (no blaster setups please).

4 150mm tech II's best named cap charger (*eautalictic something) cap charger II, named tech I em active hardener, gistti type a shield booster. 2 mag stab II's
I have advanced weapon upgrades 3, and I have less than 1 cpu left. with level 4 cap skills, and controlled burst 4, you hold steady at about 40% cap firing antimatter and running hardener and shieldbooster 23/7.
This is a gang setup, and is very suseptible to nossing. ( well all frigs are) With small railspecialization 4,surgical strike 5, and the 3% small hybrid implant, your damage mod is over 7, and you can hit all but the tightst orbiting inties. That's what gank destroyers are for. respectable range, very nice dps, and a tank that is tough as nails. Very useful for small gang work. I switch out a local hull nanofiber for traveling in low sec. It has yet to let me down.

If you want to try sniping with it, here is what i use: (with af 4, support gunnery skills at 4 and small rail spec.)
4 150mm t2
2 Tracking Computer t2 2 Sensor Boosters (cant use t2 yet, so named)
1 Mag Stab t2 1 Tracking Enhancer (t2 wont fit due to lack of cpu for me, so named)
With spike i get optimal of 100km+, nice addition to any gatecamp. Damage output is of course not the greatest... But as a result of the sniping setup you get wicked locktimes, not many pods will escape after you and your gangmates have wasted an hostile ship :)
You can prolly reach almost 120km with af 5 and sharpshooter 5. (and maybe some implants)

The question is, can you actually use Javelin ammo on it? Four guns loaded with it will seriously hurt your shields. Or just use Antimatter for anything close, and Null for sniping?
To make it Nos-proof, a Medium Shield Extender II fits if you use 125mm Rail IIs (and a MAPC I think), as well as a passive t2 EM hardener.
Just bought one, never flown in before. Trying to figure whether I should go for a Web or an AB in the last med slot. (\_/) (O.o) (> <) |

125's do more DOT, but lets face it.
Noone engages a AF in any frigate, they get a noscruiser and kill you. Theyre pretty poo for solo ships.
Therefore best thing to do is set it up for fast locking and sniping, and dont bother tanking it at all.

first of all using blasters in any AF is a loose loose situation 90% of the time AF specially caldari are very slow so im not seeing how u will ever get in ur optimal even with an mwd on especially since AF hunts inties,AF even most cruisers are faster than an AF with their 10Mn MWD than a AF with iMN MWD on. second of all most cruisers and inty carry web so u will NEVER reach the optimal u are looking for Most importand dont matter if u tank or passive tank MEd NOS = DEAD AF 100% of the times medium nos will suck the cap right away so u will not be able to shoot keep a scrab warp etc so getting inside Nos range of a cruiser with a AF is big RISK. So no blasters!!!
125 do crappy dmg and can only kill inty's u will have a very hard time killing anything bigger that tanks. So 150 FTW if u go solo u may want to fit 2xweb so u will not have any probs with inties comming too close and too fast and at the same time u will be able to put up a good fight over something bigger if u are in gang u dont need them (web). Harpy does not tank well except if u have a gisty booster so if u dont have it its better to go for full dmg and tackle setup than fit a small II boost which is crap. MWD is a laugh for AF since it takes up huge resources and alot alot of cap and it does not give u much speed anyhow and the one that it gives u need 1min to reach it. so nothing or a t2AB at the best
4x150 1xt2 AB 20kscrab 2xwebs or switch the AB for a t2 EM hard 2xMAG II maybe u could put 1xdmg control II also to geth this lifesaving 56%in struct
if in gang 4x150 1xt2AB 20kscrab 2xboosters 2xMAGII

Hmmm thanks for your input so far, i knew some idiot would suggest blasters, which is pointless 'cos the speed of af's with mwd is crap...I like the sniper setup, tried it and damage was ok...but only useful for pods and shuttles. Might switch out abII for a web so i can hit fast targets, and yes javelin ammo is pretty crappy, the speed screws you up, but the shield damage is strange it only affects you when you take the ammo OFF, but it reduces ur shields to ****

Yes, exactly. My shield got cut in half when i tried javelin. Just use antimatter for close combat. Null wont work very well in a railgun either :) But i suppose you mean Spike.

I'm gunna go out on a limb here and guess that none of you have actually calculated DPS on 125mm Vs 150mm. Yes, they hit harder per shot, and yes they have far superior range...
BUT, unless you're sniping, and therefore need the range, 125mms have better DPS. Here is my fit:
4x 125mm T2 1x Standard missile launcher T2
1mn AB T2 EM Passive T2 Named Small SB 20km Scrammer
PDS T2 MFS T2
DPS on this far exceeds 4x 150mms T2. Range with goods skills is around 15km with AM, which is fine. With Spike S, I get 60km+, which is further than you'll get with any other sniping frig.
If you want a gang setup, go for this. Launcher filled with either EXP or EM, depending on target.
Obviously, if you want a sniper setup, go for sensor boosters and tracking computers. Not somewhere inbetween.

your all noobs, noobs noobs noobs, ive been pvping in a harpy for over 8 months and have tried all the set ups, 125mm II's 150 II's, nos or missile launcher, em hard or no em hard, and the best set up i found was with blasters:
4x light neutron blaster II's 1x diminishing nos
1x cold gas ab 1x sb II 1x X5 webber 1x faint 7.5k scram
1x pdu II 1x mag stab II
set your orbit distance to about 1300m, orbit the fool and unload. you get a massssiivvee raw dps and wreck at 390 |

Pretty much my setup though I use Ions and 2 mag stabs. Not sure which works out better, but in any case Blasters are good fun. Depends what you like really.

then just about any other AF comes along and eats you alive? you're trying to dictate range in a caldari ship with an AB, wtf and you call everybody else a noob?

The thing I found was that my range was being dictated to me regardless of what I did with rails on (I wasn't sniping at 80kms though). It's a slow piece of crap, AF's were getting under my rails and killing me so I fitted blasters to be able to punch them in the face when they did.
It doesn't always work that way ofc depending on what you're facing, but you can't fit for every situation.
In my opinion your comment rings very true though, which is why I'd rather fly just about any other AF. :D

And some idiot has to put blaster setups, they dont work, you die, end of. I dont care what anybody says the only things you will kill are noobs, and if you want to go with blasters on a af, then a gallente af is way better suited for it. Stop posting sh!t on my thread

What youre not considering: In all liklihood you will have to fit cpu/grid mods in order to fit the 150mm rails + any useful mods in mid slots. That means no damage mod in lows. 125mm + damage mod will do more damage than 150mm without a damage mod, especially once you figure in the effect on damage the better tracking has.
Yes, you lose a bit of range, but I can hit reliably out to 40k or beyond with 125mm rails and spike ammo on gallente assault frigs. On a harpy its even farther than that. Thats plenty far under most circumstances. If youre going for pure sniper, then yes 150mm might make more sense.

Are you sure about that? I noticed the shield hit after you unload Javelin too, but what I think is happening is when you load Javelin rounds your shield's max level is decreased, but you're still at 100% shield strength. When you unload Javlin rounds, you're still sitting at the same shield level, but the maximum level for the shields is back to its original value so you're not at 100% anymore. Hence why the chunk is missing from your shields.
