Happened a couple times, whilst mining, beat off a rat attack and the plan is to return after mining with something to do the loot salvage thing. Before that happens some rude person salvages my rat kills. He can't loot it, as the loot goes into a can, and quite frankly hi-sec rats don't drop that good a stuff. I just want to know: Will Concord get all bent out of shape if I sic a few Hammerheads on him? I targeted one and he turned blue in the Overview, but I didn't go any further as I really like my big old barge and would hate to lose it. |

He can steal from your wrecks. Doing so makes him suspect and allows you to attack him without Concord getting involved.
However if you attack him he can attack you back. |

And high-sec rats *can* drop nice stuff, it's just incredibly rare (because grr goons, etc.)

Ultimately it's not your stuff til you dock and unload it into your hangar.
Up until that moment ownership of an item lies in a certain gray area. Someone can steal it from the wreck, which will cause them to go suspect. Someone can shoot you and take it from your wreck also, which will usually evoke a CONCORD response unless either you are suspect yourself or they have an active killright on you.
As far as salvaging goes, there's nothing to stop another player from salvaging wrecks in space regardless of who shot the ship involved. This does not cause suspect or criminal flagging because they're basically cleaning up spacejunk.
Edit: And he can loot it out of a can, it just makes him go suspect. The more you know...

MTU's are not a sure thing either. They can be nommed on with impunity by anyone who's willing to go suspect. If you do the AFK mining thing (which I strongly discourage) the odds are pretty good that the MTU will be a wreck by the time you return to keys.
Bottom line is that if you truly want something you need to be johnny on the spot about making sure it becomes yours before someone else snags it for themselves.

Salvaging does not warrant a suspect-status. Looting does.
If you're not willing to fight, putting drones on him is a bad idea anyway.

Do something more fun then mining and beating on the poor rats.
Get a fast frigate with the CPU for a combat scanner and some salvage gear... and jump in on cruisers and larger running level 3-4 missions. If your lucky they perhaps have even used a mobile tractor to make your life easier. lol
Don't loot there cans man that's illegal and just not right.
If they won't shoot at you (so the concord will earn the taxes you pay at the local stations)... goad them into it.
Something like
" X you have been engaging the local "insert rat type" in violation of a non aggression pact signed by "insert systems name"... as a legally contracted waste disposal corp for "insert systems name", Recycling operations are underway. Don't interfere and transmit your intentions to safeguard our non aggression pacts in the future and We will jettison 10% of the locally recycled materials as recompense"
That alone may get them to shoot at you in which case be ready to zoom off and come back to continue the now much more profitable salvage in the area.
Or fly up there nose and jettison the 10%... and forget to abandon there cut. Then you can of course tickle them a bit and run off.
You can't really be interesting in AFK mining now that someone has shown you there is a more entertaining way to spend your time in eve. lol |
