I fly a Punisher or Omen (depending on mood) ratting in 0.4 to 0.2 space (mostly 0.3 atm) and have been I think quite successful. I can easily tank duel $175K cruisers and their escorts, etc., and have been pretty successful at avoiding pirates (safespotting, local and all that). I can net about $600K - $1M a night.
Question I am on is this: Should I work my way back into the mission running thing to go for L2 or L3 or (since I can afford to loose em) should I move into lower sec for ratting (0.1 and 0.0)? Which have pilots found to be more fun/profitable?
Anyone with experience doing both have some thoughts? I have been impressed with the Punisher's tanking and have taken out $375K cruisers, so I was thinking it can't be that much harder in 0.1 or 0.0, am I crazy? Plus they are cheap and easily replacable while I work my skills up to AF's and Int's (sooo close).
Thanks,

Wow, how did you tank cruisers in a punisher? Back on topic, you're probably better of killing 175k cruisers as one of those will pay you the equivilent of 2-3 L2 missions. Of course, you'll never get to L4 agents and faction rewareds but you can just buy them with the cash you get off ratting.

I asked the same question the other day. I make that same amount running 2 or 3 lvl 2 missions, when you add up rewards, bounties and loot.

I don't have my setup handy, but it is not that hard. Target the cruiser (ignore escorts) move in to the cruiser at an angle to keep transverse up, roll into a 1500 or 2K orbit and blast away.
I run the standard RMR/PVP setup detailed here: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=289078
I changed it a bit (since I am in dangerous space I always run a warp core stab - which affects my CAP a little, so I have to monitor what I am doing). Also, since this is my PVE ratting setup, I run a CPR in mids and I forget what else...).
I am frankly amazed what the Punisher can tank (course the Minmatar HAC pirate that caught me aligning at a gate popped me in one salvo, but meh that is rare that I get caught... ).

I encourage all pilots to begin planning their move to the frontier where the only limits on your income earning ability and personal freedom are what you set for yourself.
Ratting and mission running in 0.0 is quite profitable and the agents have better items to offer you as you accrue skillpoints. I have been offered Halo implants from my Angel Cartel agents in Curse.

Can you get L1 missions from Angel Cartel in 0.0? I am very near Curse entry point (though I have never popped in to say hi - not interested in gate gank yet. ).

Yes, there are tons of agents out in 0.0, Curse is Angel territory, Catch to the south is home to Sansha's Nation (which drop greet Amarr loot) and they both offer agents. Just watch out for Doril if you're coming down that pipe...
You might also want to join a corp running down there and get the benefits of team ratting against spawns with a group value of like 4 mil... I've made 20 mil a day before ratting in the belts of KDF near a player owned outpost (with hangars and a market and all the luxuries of home). __________ Your wife's B!tch Slap strikes you perfectly, wrecking for a lifetime of pain and misery... |

I fly a Rifter in 0.3-0.4 Space and clear about the same rate as you. I've always felt it beats the level two missions, and I like the challenge of keeping out of the Pirates way. It certainly is more fun.

Yah, Level 1 Angel missions are available as are Level 1 Serpentis missions (if you haven't been working for Gallente agents previously, ofc).
Syndicate has Intaki Syndicate NPC stations and a glut of agents as well. Pure Blind is also a possibility, but the Torrinos corridor is certain death for a neutral pilot. EC-P8R is quite hostile (not to mention PF-346 in Syndicate).
However, the future of our universe is being realized now on the frontier. Get out there and make your mark, fellow freecaptain!

Friagtes (and particilularly a Punsiher) do GREAT for belt ratting if you set em up the right way. The trick is to put 2 Cap power relays in low and an Energised adaptive nano, this means you got proper resists AND with a small Nos added you can repair forever so you don't have to wait for your cap.
Just keep orbiting :P

So basically the consensus is to move into lower space and rat over the L2 mission stuff as it is just as or more profitable? Or sneak into 0.0, join an alliance and L1 mission for the pirates?
Since a T1 frigate in 0.0 is a sheep among wolves, how hard is it to find replacement frig's in 0.0? Or join a corp with free T1?

I don't know about more profitable, but I find it more relaxing. I can start at any time. Go to any system. Take breaks at any time (without feeling the pressure of the bonus time). And finish up any time, without feeling like I didn't get the mission done, etc.
That said, I do everything. Mine/mission/rat/haul, and occasionally go shooting other folks. It helps break up the grind feeling.
I just wish I've seen those 375k rats in lowsec that you guys are seeing. I rat in 0.2 space quite often and most I've seen is 185k wing/squadron leaders. Best drops I've seen are 11-13 mil beta hull cargo expanders, and those drop off the weaker cruisers(65-85k variety).
Does anyone think a frigate(rifter in this case) has ANY chance whatsoever of taking out BS rats in 0.0?

I'd be interested in an answer to this too. :)

Lots of corporations offer free t1 frigates, cruisers and modules to their members so they can pvp cheaply. --

Pirate popping in Cloud Ring is pretty profitable, if boring after a while. If you can catch 2 rear admirals at the belts thats 950,000 isk apiece. Not bad for one encounter.

i think you will make more money in ratting in low sec than doing lvl2 missions. I think low sec bounties = high quality lvl 3 agents but i could be wrong. The punisher is an excellent ship upto 0,1 but in 0,0 it gonna take ages to break bs tanks and i think you will have trouble with the biggest ones. However if you like the punisher, you should train for the retribution , with the retri, you can take down 0,0 bs .
The thing about mission is that to have the benefits of the lvl 4 missions, you need top go through the lvl 2 and 3 before , talk about boredom .... At least when you npc in low sec or in 0,0, you have to be always on your guard , that keep you awake ; not that npcing is especially funny either /
