What's the gain? Corp got hit by an ore theif recently. You know how much she got? 66k Scordite. 66k Scordite out of the 3 million units of ore we mined. Boo...Hoo... 66k Scordite. I must shut down our factories. Without that 66k the 3m units is worthless. Know why she got it? Cause we left it there. I told everyone to leave it. Wasn't worth the hassle.
What's the risk? That people will wise up and starve them to death by using the tools availible. In full swing, an ore thief will get 0 from my corp while they mine. And before you say anything about people not in corps, I've solo mined myself. In the time it took me to mine and haul by myself, I'd have made the same amount if I had grabbed anyone and had them haul for 1/2 what I mined. If not more.

What's the risk? That someone will come and break up their little blockade (usually pretty easy to do) and interrupt their profits. People are too hung up with "Butbutbutbut...I can't keel dem!". I could care less about killing them. My goal is to get Ship A through Gate B. Nothing more. If Ship A passes through Gate B, I win. End of story.
But there is the very real risk that someone will come through and they'll have a bad day. Why do you think SI uses cheap ships and modules? Because they've had enough bad days to know the profit is rarely worth the risk of losing an expensive battleship. 5 people camping a gate all day in their battleships. They have to make times enough isk to cover their insurance on the chance that someone coming through will cost them at least 1 ship. Split 5 ways. And in reality, the profit ain't that good.
So no offence to PC RPG " Good" pirates.
The ones who organise raids. fight with honour and work in groups. Disable and extort. Occasionaly letting the small fry go.
Know what my reply was when I was a pirate?
"**** honor. Gets in the way of profit"

Sigh . Why not just digest what i was saying and think about it. Yes scordite aint worth much to you . But to the noob its a bunch of frigates.
But lets imagine its some omber or kermite.
(Not all of us can strip mine)
1/3 an hours work for a haulers worth you might say .
But no it isnt cos the little ****s can come back again and again .. so you have to keep moving around or get some secure cans (A huge mess of em) - Pain in the arse - its not a rpg thing its just annoyin.
Ok so you can set your rating for the guys to bad and if you ever see them in 0.0 you can have a go. But its a big universe.
And im not saying they are clever enough to work out that the time it takes them to do this is proportionatly against it whne up against simply mining themselves.
Perhaps you cant remember when a million was a lot.
Perhaps you cant remember playing solo.
Perhaps you can and since you went through these things so should we all.
I dont know
All i know is that these activities are lamesk and they irritate ME.
I dont suggest they iritate us all.
But they do irritate ME.
And it is MY oppinion that these activities are a lot easier than trying to be an industialist (Solo)
I hear a lot of people sayin "ahh it doesnt matter they onley get 66 scordite" or hay "just use 2 mwd's"
Ok ill wait the months it takes me to aquire the skills or be in a position when 66000 doesnt mean anything.
All these things a relative.
My attitude is changing as i play.
Each thing done unto me causes a flare of emotion and I continue a little bit wiser.
I guess what im trying to say is that this universe being created by us is sour and synical
Fun seems to be making others miserable.
I guess i am a care bear.. there you go.

The point is: Don't Mine Solo. Is it that friggin hard to ask someone "Hey! Want to go halves mining? I mine, you haul?" You will make the same amount of isk. I've solo mined in .3 in a Thorax, dropping off in a station in the same system. It took me the same amount of time I mined to haul back to station.

There's that Butbutbutbut...I can't keel dem!" thing again. Pride costs more than it's worth sometimes. I could care less about shooting Mydol ( ) if I ever see her in low sec space. It'd be more annoying to replace the ammunition spent than any real annoyance she caused me.

1) Ore thieves weren't around when I was solo. Concord was survivable, therefore they didn't survive.
2) I never mined initially at all. By the time I did start mining, Concord was not survivable.
3) I didn't bother mining in high sec space when I did start mining solo. I mined in low sec space, where shooting an ore thief was a completely viable option (had to do something with the leftover launcher slots on a Rupture).

It's easier being an industrialist solo than running an industrial corporation. I know several extremely successful solo industrialists. But that's neither here nor there.
A real businessman would sit down and analyze the situation. Analyze meaning factor in the losses to the ore thief with the total gained. The ore thief is the cost of doing business. Every major store in the world has factored in the loss of theft as a cost of doing business. In order to completely stop theft in their stores would destroy their profits. The amount of theft is actually part of their projected profits. Some months they get hit more than expected. Some months they get hit less than expected. So long as it all balances out around what they expected, they do not care.
I'd suggest you start viewing pirates as a Cost of Doing Business. Factor them into what you expect to gain versus the losses you take to them. Nobody, not even Stavros during beta (ask anyone who was in beta what he did to plutonium runs), has EVER made anything I did unprofitable. If it even began to look like something was about to become unprofitable, I stopped and re-evaluated what I was doing. If there was no way around it, I went to something else. Otherwise I did something different.
That's how I earn my isk. It would take a fairly huge amount of losses to make my time in Eve unprofitable at this point. A fairly huge amount of losses and a collosal amount of stupidity on my part.
That is the defining reason why pirates do not bug me. It would require me to be stupid for them to do so.

I wont quote your collosal spout of quasi simplistic buisness drivel. Or you obviouse self importance.
We all play for reasons .. Mine believe it or not is to have fun.
I dont need to be successfull in a "Game" it isnt real.
The markets arent real . My ship isnt real.
Its all pretend. Its a game,
Becomming a big shot *lol* in a game doesnt do it for me sunshine.
But i see massive potential for all in this game. The 10 year olds. The students. the middle aged people. It has it all.
But im afraid it is biased to the baser instincts.
And in these forums devils advocates abound.
And you can see those types of people by the way they play and the responses in forums.
Its all really interesting.
But it does become tiring listing to drivel.
The DA's will allways spout crap hopeing to intimidate but in the end solutions to the gripes are found and implimented due to "care bear" pressure. Even though real "lol" buisnessmen would add these things into thier "costs".
HEHE you unadulterated moron.

Lol i read it . and i understand what he is saying.
Hell be buying my stuff for a long time ..
Thats what i do make stuff for others to buy.
And dont be so arrogant to think that i dont mine anywhere else than the nice safe areas u gumbie.
LOL like i said a towering inflated self oppinion there.
you guys just dont get it do you.
Ill have fun no matter what.
All the gripes i have are valid and it has no bearing on pirate activity. They are just the expresssions of other players doing their thing.
Doesnt mean i have to like them and no ammount of drivel spouting will make me like them.
Amazingly enough i have incorporated them into my GAMEplay without your geniouse LOL.
In these forums it seems that towing the party line is par for the course but im sorry as long i continue to use them i will express my oppinions.

I think you both have overinflated egos, and you've hijacked this thread for a ****ing contest.
Only I am allowed to do that. Your 150mm Railgun II perfectly strikes Serpentis Drug Baron, wrecking for 192.8 damage. |

Why do people think there should be any rules in pirating. As far as it goes pirating is an illegal proffession and as such any illegal activity can be undertaken. If they want to go one on one with another BS as a show of skill so be it. If they feel like going and slaughtering some frigate of indy ships then ok. At the end of the day they should be able to do anything they want. Then retribution and justice should be dealt out by the law abiding players, plenty of Alliances have no tolerance for pirates and police the space to prevent attacks. as for exploits I still say fare game, if they are in the game they are there to be used. You are going to tell me that if you found an exploit that enabled only you to mine 1000 units of Ore of any type a cycle you wouldn't use it? And there is none of the it doesn't effect anyone because your fast isk machine would enable you to better defend yourself lower your production cost putting legit production companies out of business. But I don't think you would care as nobody knows!!
So I personally think pirates are a great thing to have and should be able to use any means necessary to make a living or just to have fun.
