How about Hybrid Mining Drones? Mining drones with the ability to be used as defensive drones against aggressors. They could have additional skills needed to use different types of defensive modules. Maybe, when coupled with defensive modules, they mine less volume and don't have the control distance of offensive drones, just to balance things out. It would be nice to not have to bring in the miners to get out the Hobs. Also, I've never understood why a laser used to beat the crap out of rocks couldn't be used against other ships, even if they didn't have the same power. |

or buy a barge with 50m3 drone bay, have a flight of mining drone 2's and hobgob 2's in the flight bay, if its going to be manual like you said, whats the point developing a feature when something that has the same effect is already in the game?  |

1: mining laser vs. actual laser: Think diffuse, low power beam with an integral tractor as you melt yourself out the material vs. sharp, focused, high energy lasers. Its gonna use the same method of energy direction, but how it is focused and the energy levels are massively different.
2:: would need to be the size of heavy drones to be balanced as having 50% the mining yield as regular mining drones and 75% of the DPS of lights. Flexibility is a huge advantage in something like this.
3: Still, how about no.

ok you can fit two sets of drones in your bay just abandon the mining drones send out the hobs. when the fighting is done just call back in the hobs and reconnect to the miners |

If they're gonna mine less anyways, and I assume be less effective than combat drones, then why not just mix mining and combat drones with the options available now?
4 mining drones + 1 T2 combat drone should be plenty for most highsec rats. And if you're in nullsec then no, your hybrid drones would very likely be ineffective there. |
