Hello everyone! I recently got back into eve and have been having a blast. I am still very much a new player and was hoping you kind people could help me with some questions I have.
So as of right now, I have trained up some basic exploration skills(hopefully you can view exactly what I have trained in my profile). With these basic skills I have been having decent success in doing non-combat relic/data sites in C1-3 wormholes. This is where I need a little advice.
Should I bother leveling up archeology/hacking anymore? With my current skill set and rig I have probably a 80-90% success rate on the sites I have come across. I don't think I want to go all in on exploration, which is why I ask. For a new player like me, I made almost 80 mil isk from my wh shenanigans last night, and thats probably all I am looking to get out of it for now.
My second question is, should I even bother with data sites? It seems like relic sites are 4x more profitable than data sites, but maybe I was just unlucky. If I forgo data sites I could fit 2x small emission scope sharpeners(instead of 1 and 1) and replace my Data analyzer with a rangefinding array or something. The downside to me it would seem is: sure, if you find a wormhole that has a lot of signatures you can pick and choose the relic sites, but when you aren't having as much luck maybe settling with whatever you can find is better?
Finally, I just have general skill questions. I know, as a new player, its better to use my skills to specialize in something at the beginning. So overall I am looking to go all-in on frigates, maybe work towards specializing in covert-ops(this also supplements exploration kind of). I feel like maybe drones aren't really my thing, but maybe they should be. I am going to go with gallente ships. I want to hopefully work towards being proficient with frigate/covops in a PvP setting in the future. Also, if possible, would love t be able to do some PvE as well from time to time.
What would you guys suggest for a skill build? If my exploration is proficient enough for what I want to do right now I would like to start training asap.
Thanks for reading, I really do appreciate your time. |

We can't see your skills without your API (or a screenshot), but there are 3rd part tools such as eveboard that you can put your API in and it will make a list of it. To use eveboard, go to https://support.eveonline.com/api/key/createpredefined/59645960, Log In, Enable 'No Expiry', name the key and press submit. Copy KeyID and vCode (verification) and paste them into eveboard, press register and then add a password and register again. Post link/password here when done (I suggest changing the password in a couple of days so people won't be able to access it again any more)

And now for the other bit.
Skills I recommend you get (not in this order): Cloaking IV. Astrometric Acquisition III Astrometric Rangefinding III Astrometric Pinpointing III Astrometrics IV Archaeology IV Hacking III
And other stuff. I recommend the Astero instead of the Helios. Other than reduced training time (allowing you to make exploring/tank/damage better), it's tankier and stronger. But it does cost more (I think it's ~90m at the moment?), so if you don't have a few hundred mil atm, don't get it. And before getting it, there are a few skills you should have. I haven't researched heavily so I'm not sure, but I'll go eft a fit..
And to answer your question, yes, data sites do largely suck. You might get super lucky and find a faction tower BPC, but I'd rather use the mid slot for other things. |

Thanks so much for your reply. Those are great guidelines. My skills aren't really that crazy, 8ish days worth of putting points in mostly what you listed for me, with some exceptions.
I am still very interested in a skill guide for my frigate/covop/pvp/pve dreams as well if anyone would be nice enough. |

Sounds like you are somewhat interested in PVP. If you are happy with your skillpoints for exploration I would keep that as a side venture and start focusing on combat skills. It's never too early to start PvPing.
I've had quite a bit of fun stalking wormhole space in a stealth bomber, which would fall in line with your plan to skill covert ops. It's a niche style of PVP...a lot of scanning and stalking and waiting for the correct targets, which in general are "soft" targets like industrials, mining barges, or ratting ships. It's a great way to learn situational awareness and sharpen your dscan and probing skills as well.
If you're looking for a more well rounded ship, a lot of the tech 1 frigates are quite fun and cheap to fit up. Faction warfare is a good place to start if you want to stick to frigates for a while (not a bad idea as they are cost effective and at first you'll be learning lessons the "hard way").
If any of that interests you and you don't know where to start send me a mail and I can hook you up with some basic bomber or t1 frigate fits. If you want to get into PVP it's a good idea to join a corporation doing whatever flavor of combat interests you. Having others to learn from in real time is the absolute best way to get started.
